More reach on the frames, wider bars, and shorter stems.

    Low, long, and slack bikes.

Those are what did it for me.

Trailwinds Nutrion: Eliminated my leg cramps, no more barfing from trying to stuff solid food in my gut when my body said no way, the ability to ride nearly unlimited miles compared to prior. Bike innovations are awesome, my dropper post and hydraulic disc brakes come to mind first, but bikes have always been fun. The advancement of suspension to give a mortal like me the guts to fly on Singletrack and in the rough!

What was really mind blowing was Commencal views that you needed 4-5 bikes. I'm blessed to be in the sport as it stands. I have 4 bikes, but not in the way Commencal thought. I also have 4 riders in my family and my littlest would throw a fit if I touched her tassels.

What flavor do you recommend on the trailwinds? I get leg cramps too, and the study showing that spicy foods inhibit those cramps isn't cutting it for me.

I lean to the Naked flavor. I tried most of them and they are light enough that it just adds variety. But I like the Naked the most. I hope this helps you like it helped me!

It is really hard to pinpoint one thing to say it has had the greatest effect since 2000. Some say frame design which is a plus, tubeless, disc brakes and tons of other things. But to derail the thread, I will say the Bottom Bracket standard has gotten way out of hand. We now have a half dozen or more types of them and more on the way(T47).

None of that other stuff would have made a bit of difference if we were still pinning together our front ends with tiny little quick release skewers.

After thru-axles, I would say the 29er. (Was Gary Fisher's 29er in the 2000s)? One could argue that this was a 1990s invention, so doesn't belong here, but what the heck. I believe the 29er was first mass-produced and marketed in the 2000s.

The 29er forced an analysis of bike geometry starting with chainstay length, head angle and fork offset. Then it forced a revolution (pardon the pun) in analyzing torque and lateral forces, material weight, tire composition, contact patch, spokes, hubs, rims, front derailleur placement, f/d elimination. The first 29ers were unmanageable beasts in my opinion. Slow responding school buses that resisted any attempt to lean them over. But the manufacturers plowed ahead (pun intended) and figured out how to make the monster truck wheels more palatable to everyday trail shredding.

The 29er also begat the 27.5, which I suspect will die off as soon as World Cup DHers win races on 29ers. (I made the same prediction about 26 and was right on the money). They have already taken over much of the EWS. A 29er will NEVER podium at Rampage or Slopestyle events, however. (I don't consider Slopestyle mt. biking. It is circus performing/gymnastics).

I alternate, but have found the naked, lemon, and orange to be the mildest. My taste buds may be shot, but those three don't have a strong taste at all... I also like the green tea, but it gets old quick.

When I have to drink it all day, like at the 12 Hours of Temecula, I usually go with the naked and mix it up with a sip of Coke or something else at the pit area. That keeps me from getting sick of it by the end.

I like to mix the flavors. Mixing a scoop of naked with any of the other flavors mellows out the stronger flavors.

Me too - and yes. But it won't die off as quickly or as completely. Shorter riders still struggle with wagon wheels - especially with 5-6" travel, and there will always be the "flickability" factor. The gyroscopic effect is real, as I am sure Varaxis can attest to. However, World cup DH courses will probably remain fairly straight ahead affairs with huge rock gardens and roots, linked with bermed turns. Maintaining speed while smashing over stuff will continue to be the name of the game - which is where the 29er excels. The remaining question will be can they build the wheels strong enough?
