    Ride Name: The Jims, CNF, 7/16 Sunday
    When: 7/16/17
    Time: 6:30
    Where: Holy Jim parking lot
    Ride Description or Details:
    The classic Holy Jim singletrack climb to Main Divide Rd (4.5 mi), followed by a couple miles of dusty forest road to the fabulous Riverside Co. overlook atop Upper Holy Jim (sometimes phone service).

    Descend short and challenging UHJ to a quick Main Divide connector back to Holy Jim. Descend Holy Jim back to HJ parking if you parked there; continue on to the Wash if you parked there.

    UHJ is has chunky drops, rocks, ruts and switchbacks to negotiate. There is some potential for injury, so for this reason it's not a beginner ride. Assessing difficulty ahead and dismounting/tripodding are de rigeuer skills. Riding all the way down UHJ is possible except for ducking under the fallen tree – the difficulty (not extreme) is consistent through several sections. The last switchback is somewhat intimidating, and is typically the trickiest part of the trail. UHJ can be avoided by reversing Main Divide back to Holy Jim, but you'd be robbed of the spectacular position and views off UHJ.

    ~~~~~ Optional Details ~~~~~
    Meet Location:
    Most people park at "the Wash" – an open dirt area next to the bridge where Trabuco Creek Rd (dirt) splits off Trabuco Canyon Rd (paved). This area currently looks like a construction yard with heavy equipment, etc., but still room to park there. A white sign for Trabuco Flyers RC airport confirms this location. A 35-minute/4.5 mi pedal up Trabuco Creek Rd puts one at the Holy Jim parking lot (last chance bathroom). That is the location we'll start pedaling from at 6:30
    Skill Level: Intermediate, Advanced
    Ride Pace: Social Cruise, Easy with Moments of Effort
    Type of Ride: Out and Back, Lolipop
    Rider Limit: Wynona had a big brown beaver
    Anticipated Mileage: 13 or 22, depending where you park
    Elevation Gain: 3900 from the Wash (the 22-mi version)
    Ride Duration: ~4 hrs
    Previous Ride Reports: Teaser: http://www.ousleycreative.com/misc/PassionLives1.m4v
    Possible Bail-Outs:
    Reverse anywhere. Skipping Upper HJ is possible.
    Facilities: A few porta-johns on the way up Trabuco Creek Rd. Generally no cel signal a mile past the Wash. Sometimes cel signal at top of UHJ.
    Food/water suggestions: Bring plenty; no water resupply.
    Thanks for posting @mike, miss riding that stuff. All I can do is read about right now..... though I hope/plan to be in Montana Sunday riding some trails on an assisted conveyance of the equine type (not ready for the E-Bike quite yet). Maybe see some wildlife up there too...
    Sounds awesome! I will plan on parking in the parking lot, do I need any permits or passes that I can't obtain there to park in lot? Been a minute since I did 13mil. :eek:
    I'll be in a silver lowered ram 1500, riding a white and black Intense tracer.
    Looking towards to meeting you guys and seeing new stuff! :thumbsup:
    @SnakeCharmer, I will be driving in to the HJ parking area, despite rumors that I live under a tree.
    @Cornholio: Excellent!!!!!!
    @Toxicmoto713: Excellent, again!!!!! You can risk the white "ticket" asking you to mail in five bucks if you don't have a NatFo Adventure Pass (or National Parks Pass, Golden Eagle, etc.). I've never gotten one there, and I've tossed out a dozen of those notices starting 15+ years ago.
    We'll be in Gray Corolla/black FS 29er/white Bronson.
    If my poison oak covered knee is a little better (Thanks MTT...), I'd like to join for part. I'll either go up and over the peak... Or maybe head to Trabuco when we reach MD to make up for the missed Trabuco descent a couple weeks ago.
    This has been about my worst month ever for riding related issues... I'm ready for August. :D
    MTT P.O. strikes again! :rolleyes:
    I think that I am finally gaining some immunity to P.O. because we all rubbed through it dropping down MTT, me rubbing through it going up also. I have no rash (so far/fingers crossed).
    Actually it isn't as bad as it has been in years past. Where it is growing though, it is sticking way out into the trail and you are basically doomed because even if you don't rub on it, you'll likely rub on some neighboring bush that has the oils spread to it from some other passer by who rubbed on the P.O. there. :eek:
    Yes, yes it does. I misread the description....I thought it was Saturday.
    I gotta admit, my last 2 trips up HJ haven't been that great.
    Gotta use this stuff on the affected areas. It really does help.
    Dries out the rash and reduces the itching. :thumbsup:
    Treat the affected areas at least twice a day.
    ALSO, take a non-drowsy antihistimine. Helps reduce the symptoms, too.
    Hey, I was going to mention but failed (thx, @Faust29)... Anyone is more than welcome to tag up with us for any part of the ride. It's a good excuse to put some names to faces and expand the network, nawtameen?
    There is really no bad option from top of HJ...maybe some dues on Main Divide, but any way down is fun, as is reversing anytime. J, I can dig the mindspace, but I think you can break the hex :thumbsup:
    Forecast is calling for clouds, which will make a big difference in the comfort factor. Anyway, we'll be done before it gets toasty.
