Doh! Two weeks away and I haven't even thought about tire choices yet... By this time last year, I had already been practicing with the skinny tires.

I used the Schwalbe Thunder Burt last year. Fastest dirt tire I've ever ridden

I have those on my 650B converted cross bike. Love 'em!

I think a fast 2" tire is hard to beat! Something like the TBs you mention or a WTB Nanoraptor will let you enjoy the dirt to the fullest and not make the road segments a slog.

Big news front: All three routes were reviewed and set last night!!!! We're down to one portion that needs to gone over and see if there's a work around for a long walk down a sandy wash. Or just keep it as discarding it would mean not going through an absolutely epic open space.

Expect routes to be published soon!

The elevation profile on the 90/9200' route looks much smoother. Looks like we take the bypass around Pisgah Pass.

We also go WAAAAAYYYYY around the last loop from last year(not marked section).

The big difference to the 2 routes posted is going around Box Springs Mountain Park or going throught Box Springs Mountain Park.

9200 is still close to 9000, but I'm going to feel really cheated if we do 9,900.

I'm thinking another Racing Ralph in the skinny version for this ride...

Was Crafton Hills the first extended climb last year? I wish I knew this area better. Publish soon, please! @Cyclotourist, will dirt to pavement be about the same?

No extended climb like Crafton, but a lot of elevation to be had!!!

I love the proposed 60 miler. It's a damn find route!

Gonna' be a hot one, similar to first year. I highly recommend leaving with one of the early waves!

    https://www.wunderground.com/weather-forecast/92373

Edit: I just totaled the amount of dirt, and it's 37.8 out of 60 miles!!! I think that's our highest percentage ever for the 100k/60 mile route! And the road segments are REALLY minimal, mostly connecting chunks of dirt! There are only four longer segments. Of those, one is really beautiful starting @ 13.2. Another kinda' sorry one at 25.4, a downhill/quick one @ 37.6, and the longest one is at the end where you just want to cruise back, starting @ 52.7. That takes you back through sorta' industrial areas to the finish. Not the prettiest part of the ride, but should be pretty mellow and downhill.

The bottom pic looks a little hairball for a cx bike. How long is that segment?

Not long at all. Roadies and CX riders may need to walk it, but it's not far. Hundred to two hundred yards? You can see where the road ends on the left/west side of the creek, up just to the left of the tree in the background. Ride the creek to where we're standing, then it's back on the road on the right/east side. No worries!!!
And another chance to post a photo of my mountain biker model!

Official and final routes are posted!

Here is the posting from their fb:
Here are the routes for Redlands Strada Rossa IV. SOrry for the delay as the rain and other details really made for a challenging time. We found some really great dirt and roads. As typical, we have a 50/50 split with dirt/pavement.
Those of you already registered, you will be receiving emails with details on the routes and how to upload to a Garmin or such.
    THE COURSE WILL BE MARKED!
    HERE ARE THE ROUTES FINAL!!!!!!
    37- https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19521748
    64- https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19512495
    90- https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19508573

As I mentioned above, the 60 is definitely a lot more dirt than 50%!!!

So we are back down to about 7900' of climbing. In theory it should be easier this year.

I saw that... Is RideWithGps similar to the others in the way it counts elevation?

Based off last years Ride w/ GPS route....we ended up with about 700' more.

Looks to be a touch easier than last year's 100 miler. That was a really demanding route.
Weather is cooling down a bit due to a new storm coming through (yeah!!!!). Still plan on an early start. I'm telling the 1/2 metric people to leave with the 8:00 metric wave. 90 milers leave earlier yet. 1/2 metric doesn't show the sag stops, but they're at miles 8.4 and 23.8. Stand by previous comments that the full metric century/60 mile route is the best. Be sure to enjoy the post-ride festivities and have a designated driver... Ritual is great!!!

So... With the reduced climbing, do we still need to do an extra early start, or go with the flow?

Wondering about tire choices for Strada Rossa, I see they listed it as 50% pavement. I have these 3 700 C tires in my garage to choose from: WTB Nano 40C, NoTubes Raven 35C, Panaracer Comet (38C), all are new; also have a 33 Tracer Pro w/ center knobs proly 50% worn. Running tubeless on Stans 400 ZTR IronCrest. Not serious, just a ride, raced yesterday 8hr, want to have fun this Saturday. Thoughts appreciated.

Still a lot of vertical, and most of it @ mile 37 through 56. But 60-90 is definitely trending downhill which will be the hottest part. I guess it depends on what your average speed on a SS is and where that will put you by noon. Mile 60 is the goal.

Hello and welcome to the site!

I ride almost entirely on dirt with normal mountain tires... usually in the 2.2-2.4 range. For the 100 miler last year, I set up my el Mariachi as a poor man's single speed cross bike with the 700 x 40 Nanos. I had almost zero experience with a tire that skinny, and I had no issues with that setup on the course... All 11,000 feet of it. If you have that many cross type tires in the garage, I'm guessing you'll be fine with any of them.

This year... I'm going to run normal lightweight mountain tires. I haven't decided 100% yet, but I'm leaning towards a 2.25 Racing Ralph in the front, and something a touch narrower in the rear.
