Strawberry Peak Sat. 12/5

I am planning to ride Strawberry Peak Loop tomorrow December 5th, at 8am.

Meet me at Clear Creek right here 34.270497, -118.153262, the Josephine trail head is just off to the right. We can also meet at 730am off the 210 and Angeles Crest Hwy, 34.209038, -118.200001 and carpool up.

Thanks to Mikie robin mcguire and Steve some trees have been recently cleared from the trail so it should be nice. Temps should be ideal tomorrow as well.

 

Wish I could join you. When I get back from Vegas, that's the first ride I'm doing.

Had a good ride today, trail is in great shape! You guys gotta come out and get some Strawberryness, you won't be disappointed.

My local buds Karl and Oscar came along. Strong riders, made me work hard. I won't bore you with the details but it was good to be back on this trail ! Hopefully we can plan an IMTB here soon. On Sunday, right Luis?!

Yeah, or do my psycho route from Switzers to Josephine road and back. 22 miles, all singletrack. Good times!

It was great meeting you today. We were the group of three riders that you chatted with today. Love to ride with your group some time as well. If you ever wanted a guided tour of trails in the OC, let me know, we'd be glad to show you around.

 

I like it backwards because you can end the ride coming down Colby Canyon Trail. It is a much harder ride doing it backwards. But I find the Josephine fireroad climb a deal killer, when I can add more singletrack and dump that road climb. Switzers to Redbox is not that bad a climb.

Welcome to the best little MtB Forum in the west Suzanne! I know a Suzanne Wilson, but she don't ride no silly mt. bikes, so I am guessing you are not she... or is it her...

I don't know if I'm THAT Suzanne Wilson or not, but I've been riding mountain bikes for a long, long time and look forward to many more years of riding.

 

& then you end with descending the Josephine fire road back to Clear Creek? Or are you riding from Switzers all the way around Strawberry and then making a U Turn at the firewood and retracing your steps?

 

No you ride almost the whole of Strawberry and decend Colby Canyon Trail to the left before Josephine fireroad. It is that trail at the water cistern along side the trail. That takes you back down to the highway, puts you on the Highway just above the road that goes down to Switzers. More singletrack and you don't have that Switzer pavement climb at the end of the day. Nor that Josephine fireroad climb to start the day.

Colby Canyon Trail is a no joke decent and not for all riders. It is steep and can be loose.

My psycho route goes switzers red box around strawberry to where colby drops down, then backtrack the way you came.
98.74351% singletrack.

 

I'll have to keep an eye open for that Colby drop down next time I'm up there. Hoping to ride Strawberry and Chilao at least once each between Xmas and New Years.

 

We also used to drop Colby Trail down to the bridge in Big Tujunga Canyon, up Alder Creek Trail, to the Rattlesnake farm, then Vetter and over to ride Chilao. Lots of thing changed after the fire.
