Heading up to ride White Mtn on Fri., 10/23. But first I will be riding up to the Bristlecones on Thursday. Camping overnight Thursday at Grandview CG.
Got room for one or two in my truck. Leaving Thursday early am. An extra vehicle would open up the possibility of a Silver Cyn downhill.
No whiners. It will be cold, windy and desolate-just how I like it.
Best info on this ride is over on MTBR-lots of pics and intel.
C'mon out and rock the dolomite and twisty trees!

    That means you twinkle toe(s)!!!!

In reading moto reports there are some trails dropping off to the east. But when you get down there then what...there is nothing down there but a few farms and ranches.

How are conditions up high? Any white stuff? Pretty adventurous time of year to go to 14k. Bring your crampons, bro, no issue. You got it.

You need to get ahold of Allison's book. http://www.extremeline.com/easternsierra.htm
It has directions for Poleta canyon. That is some good singletrack with some very steep sections. It is not an easy ride even with a shuttle.

Probably a little late to pick up now, but I'll look for it when I stop in Lone Pine on the way.

Looks like a big crowd heading out tomorrow. Ha!
Always seems like I end up doing this ride alone. Kind of fits the scenery.....

When the going gets tough, solo gets it done. No impediments, no problem...

So, solo saw snow on the mountain as I drove up from Lone Pine. I decided to drive up as far as I could to check out if it was rideable. Made it up to Patriarch grove and there was light snow on the north faces but the road was wet and clear.
It was only 12pm, skies were clear, and I had 11 miles to go to reach the summit. I geared up for the wind and cold and started riding up.
After a few uneventful miles things got interesting when the snow covered the road and I was using 4wd tire tracks to continue on.
Conditions stayed the same all the way up to Barcroft Station at 12570ft, but it was definitely colder at 30°F. Here, the road was officially closed but had signs of travel, like footprints.
The snow there was also frozen so my ride ended 4 miles short of the summit. I wasn't about to hike a bike that far in spd shoes!
    Next time!
