It started hailing 10 minutes after I got home. I couldn't have timed it any better.

 

Santiago / Mojeska / Trabuco Peaks looking good.

Tried to get a pic of the San gabes but couldn’t get anything decent, Monrovia and clamshell peaks are well covered, and big Santa Anita canyon looks solid too, well below Chantry

Just got some micro hail/ sleet here in Huntington dissolving as soon as it hit the ground

 

10" of snow on the ground yesterday morning and 4-6" remaining last night after raining on it all day. 10-12" of new snow this morning and another three on top of that with more coming down. 38° outside so it's heavy, wet sh#t and a PITA to shovel. It snows here every winter, but only does this maybe once a decade.

I'm surrounded by snowy hills and mountains today. Verdugo Mountain is white down about half way and the Gabes are white down to the base. For an hour or two we had huge clumps of wet snow coming down. I drove to the top of one of the steep roads around here and it was a Winter wonderland dressed in white. Haven't seen it like this in a good 15-20 years.

 

At least the fish are biting inside my machine shop.

Nearly 10' of snow in a week. Will that help reduce the drought a little? Maybe increase aquifers and reservoirs a smidge?

I might be inclined to roll up the snowmaking hoses for the year. Although, a warm spell and some rain could bring it all down in a hurry. That would be.... messy?

 

I hate it when that happens!

 

Oh but it's a brand new roof that cost 50k according to Mr Landlord.

We're only about 1800' elevation, and the snow was definitely sticking lower than that. We've had snow 2x since living here, but this was the heaviest by far.

The girlfriend we're on our way to eat in Rialto after sleeping in, and then this happened! Rialto is only 1,500 ft elevation! At least everybody was driving safe, nobody was driving erratic, everybody slowed to a reasonable speed. But we decided to rush lunch to try and take advantage of the situation. Went home, changed one to a running gear, ran up to the hills just above her house. Got to hit a lot of snow! Few other crazies are riding their mountain bikes, it was kind of fun.
