Trabuco and Holy Jim Dam Removal Emergency Closure. This Forest Order is effective from February 27, 2022, through June 1, 2022. A temporary closure of the creek area and adjacent locations, as well as National Forest System roads and trails to address resource, and public property protection, and public health and safety concerns related to dam removal via blasting.

 

Just thought Id mention, where Google Earth pins the HJ Falls location is way inaccurate. its actually near the bottom left of the green perimeter in that screenshot, just upstream from "Holy Jim Trailhead".

 

And yet, it's the mountain bikers and hikers they keep out for years. Last I checked, most of us don't carry dynamite in our packs.

 

And they dont have the common sense to maybe pause the blasting during extreme fire conditions

I wonder how they got past Fire Chief Mike out there. Hell, he gave us grief about physically showing him the fire extinguishers we had on us when we went out there to use power tools when brushing the trail.

 

I saw a post from a canyon resident... They were all kicked out before the demolitions started.

Finally started going back to the HJT after it was closed for years due to the last fire. Beautiful place. If the current intel is correct, it is mind-boggling that someone thought it would be a good idea to use dynamite during a series of hot and windy days. Damn.

Looks like it was really close... It's listed as Sievers Canyon, which is right near Hot Springs Road.

Looks like fire is almost out? Yeah thats a little south of hot spring canyon, just west of the bridge, so not at the trailhead like shown in the news report I linked.
