Hmm, I’ve gotten immediate delivery recently x2. The Path and Worldwide Cyclery.

What do you want the XR4s to do that they’re not? To my thinking that’s a pretty good tire for what you describe unless you’re a heavier rider.

    1) that post was written while I was riding live and direct

    2) the xr4 actually pretty awesome but I'm always open and we have a lot of experience on this forum and that good

    3) Clearly my Google Shopping Foo has let me down

I tried to track down a couple of XR4 29x2.4 today.....no go, Trek is out of them. So I had to go a different direction.

I wanted to try the SE5 for the front of the Hightower, then I saw they only offer it in 2.35 and 2.6. Wish they did a 2.4 to match the SE4.

@45acpguy You made a can't miss choice with the DHF/DHR. The reason you see more Maxxis everywhere is because they probably outsell all other brands combined. I'm one of the few that never have good luck with Bontrager tires but I ran the 27.5 2.4 SE5 up front on my Mach 6 several years ago and loved it. It never did wear out and I still have it hanging in my garage.

I’d be curious about the SE4/SE2 2.6 combo Danimal mentioned. Not curious enough to backorder.

I’m out of advice until I try the new Dissector I’ve been sitting on; it’ll be a back tire with DHF front, on FS. HT will be DHF/Rekon. Both kind of heavy setups that I wouldn’t necessarily advise but I like around here.

I bought a couple Rekon 2.4wt(s) ... want to check them out.

Seeing as I could not get my hands on the XR4s they seem pretty similar

That's actually a great all-around tire front and rear. I think you will like them.

Report back your findings, and then we'll send you down some steeps to find out how well they control the sled.

I tortured a set of Rekon 2.6 on 300 miles of AZT before replacing them – agree with Ed, a great all-arounder. Not a Minion substitute on front, though, IMO.

    I gots some bikes.
They do just fine on the front range of the San Gabes. I would not go less aggressive with tire selection, though... That’s my limit. Although I did drop a rear wheel off the side, causing an avalanche that prompted @redwoods to backtrack pretty quickly... I don’t blame the tire, though. :p

They were also tough enough for Kokopelli and all of Saint George- front and rear on the Hightower. The rough surfaces shortened their lifespan considerably.

Ok.. other bike HT.. (long story)
have an XR4 2.4 and an SE4 2.4 which on Front and Back SE looks beefier to I was thinking front.

BTW Two Wheels One Planet Costa Mesa has Bonty's on the wall

SE4 is heavier(905g) but more durable. XR4 lighter(780g) and not as durable.

    Both roll pretty well.

If you don't really trash rear tires, you could go either way.

I like that I could run lower pressure on the SE, so up front it worked better.

I ran the SE up front and the XR on the rear of the Hightower for a while....but eventually cut the sidewall on the XR on of all places Serrano Ridge while playing in Bommer Open Space.

Thx ...I generally make the choice of a better front tire because rarely does a rear tire cause serious unplanned dismounts.

Besides Chewing up rear tires in SoCal isn't that what we do?
