Garmin edge usb to computer

Not sure where to post this question but here goes... move if needed.

In light of the recent Garmin connect outage, i wanted to directly connect my Garmin Edge 830 to my computer to extract my recent ride.

When i use the usb cord and plug it into the computer PC, it will charge the device but wont see it as an additional drive on my computer.

It will charge the device when connected to the computer but nothing elese.

Is there a special USB cord i'm supposed to use for it to talk with the computer?

 

Some usb cables will not move data I found this out with my lezyne gps after trying to upload for an hour and lots of four letter words.

 

Yes, you need a USB data cable. If you have an Android phone that cable should work.

 

thanks... will search my junk drawer for cables... lol

update:: found a cable to works to transfer data... looks just like all the other cables in my box... go figure.
