Hearing that a MTBer had a HA at Tapia recently...

can anyone confirm?

This bums me out. This is my biggest worry when riding solo and why I tend to pedal at a more moderate pace (it's all relative, right?).

RIP fellow MTBer, if true.

Good on the rider for getting on the trail. I don’t subscribe to the “he died doing what he loved” thing so much. But, any end that’s not a costly protracted decline is a good thing for everyone.

 

Was this someone you guys up there knew? Not that a personal connection would make it any more tragic than it already is...

 

I don't think so. A lot of the Tapia regulars that I know didn't know him.

So I spoke with my friend Patrick last night after he took my yoga class, he and a few mutual friends were riding up when a frantic rider came bombing down asking if the guys had seen any paramedics. The poor guy had passed away before help could arrive.
Apparently it was a group of ebikers organized by a local company. They take people out to Tapia on the weekends, not sure which brand of ebikes, but I’ve seen the van around town. Not that any of this is relevant.

 

Sorry to hear - no matter the circumstances.

 

I find it to be an unreasonable fear. I would be more worried about having a heart attack from NOT riding more than from riding too much.

Just relax and pedal your own pace.

Death is complex and it isn't at the same time.....

The old saying "We are all are going to die (one day)" is probably the only certainty that is unquestioned.
That is why I try to focus on leaving vs. being afraid of dying. I try to be a good provider to my family, a husband, a father, etc.
While making sure that I'm prioritizing my dreams an aspiration.

Do I think that dying on a trail while doing what I love is the way to go? No!
On the other hand, watching my parents gradual decline while maintaining very little ability to enjoy anything is probably the most depressing thing I was ever a part of.

We will all join you someday, but hopefully not any time soon.
