Rossage, I'm gonna hit some Santa Anas action while that dirt is still tacky. Coldwater and Los Pinos are both calling; big ridges with HAB and technical descending. LP is kind of like Bell's big brother, for reference. That one normally starts at San Juan TH, but a shuttle can shave off the 11-min climb to Main Divide Rd. Coldwater can start at Holy Jim (bonus ST) or Deleo Sports Park in Corona for a shorter ride.

I know it's a haul for ya, so no short rides . We could bag the peak and do Joplin, alternatively, for a slightly more tame outing.

It's gonna be hot Saturday; pushing 90 around OC mountains. That mandates dawn patrol IMO. FWIW. WYSIWYG. WGAF? GBOGH.

 

Sounds tempting mike, but I'm gonna have to scale back my plans after this morning's dirt sampling!
Tweaked my left thumb - not broken but definitely not good. Fortunately, (unfortunately) i have a brace I saved from the last time this happened so that and a bunch of tape should get me back on some fireroad action soon.
I'm gonna have to pass on the chunk fest for now.....

That works fine for me, though...battling heat ain't my passion. SoCal is so damn sweet for many months, but times like this you might as well be in Palm Springs or Phoenix. I may have to go back to Colorado...

The long ridge rides will be there awhile. Meanwhile...

Yeager Mesa lollipop from Holy Jim Parking!!!! The most demanding ten mile ride ever. Tough 5.5 mi climb up Trabuco as always...a little HAB to Los Pinos summit...then buckle up for Bell Ridge off the peak, quick HAB to the start of Yeager, bombs away down Yeager to the fast and furious Trabuco finish. Best quickie in the Santa Anas.

I'm trying to con knuckles into it, but he probably has better sense. Solo mission alert...?



PS: I'm not the only one thinking this is a perfect ride for Saturday...my pal vino is coming with his entourage. Meet at the wash at 6:30 or Holy Jim parking at 7:30-8:00 Saturday.

Props to Burt for catching us at Main Divide, and also for crushing all the steeps on Yeager. And for brushing off the insane header dismount in the rock garden!!! Burt gets it done, end of story. Thanks to vino and the crew for having us! The dirt was heli-good. Even if you missed today, get a jump on it tomorrow and get some tacky goodness. So damn fun...

Then start drinking before noon...aye, ya earned it.

Sliding down some tacky steep berms, I became overconfident with this unknown trail. See Mike pick his way down a rock feature and slow down. I went for it thinking I could both clean it and slow down in time to stay behind him. Neither happened. Over unweighted the front, picked up speed, then panic braked when the front came down. Endo'ed onto Mike, and landed on my back, head pointing down the trail. No harm, but not exactly my brightest maneuver.

Otherwise, rockin group and great conditions.

 

You do tend to crash spectacularly-usually in front of a crowd!!!!!

 

What happened here, and dammit I missed it!
