Did they make a Gripshift for 12 speed? What matters on your shifter is how much cable is pulled with each click. SRAM used to be 1:1 (for every 1mm of cable pulled, the derailleur moved in 1mm) I think - and Shimano was .5:1. Sounds like they are both the same now, but is there a 12 spd Gripshift shifter?

    EDIT:
And then I Googled and saw that the mythical beast exists!

My issue with the X01 was not the clutch. It turned out to be worn ceramic pulleys (or jockey wheels, whatever you want to call them). I threw on a new chain, chain ring, pulleys and inner cage, and everything is good. I would have replaced the outer cage, but SRAM does not sell it even though it is a removable part. :cautious:

In short, I was dropping the chain whenever I went through chunky stuff at speed. I put a chain guide on, which solved the chain dropping, but then realized it was slipping off one of the pulleys.

I rode The Luge and Oaks this weekend with zero issues, so I am confident the problem is solved.

After replacing the chain, the inner and outer shift cable, lubing the GripShift, replacing the hanger, and then finally replacing the Pulleys, I have fairly consistent shifting back. But now the chain gets too much slack in G outs (even gentle ones) that I have given up on the rear derailleur and going Shimano XT. If that still won't solve the issue I will buy a new Shimano XT 12 speed shifter and still be money ahead on just replacing the X01 RD itself. :gotnothing:
The new pulleys alone for the X01 were half the price of a new XT Rear D.

That's actually for a DT Swiss 240s. Don't imagine it's costing much more than that.

I had one of those. Then the owner realized he ran a business and needed to make money, so things changed.

I don't think that the grip shifter is going to be compatible with a Shimano RD of any kind.

Hell, for a much trouble as you've been through, I'd be happy to donate my brandy new GX Eagle RD just to get you back up and shifting well again. I can drop it off at the Scotts moto shop here in mi barrio. VT can pick it up when he passes through this week and then you can get it from him. I'm offering if you wanna go that route.

    Thanks Brohamma!
However... There is documentation out there that GripShift is compatible. Yay! I'm willing to give it a try and if not, the Shimano migration begins!
I would rather go to Push Pull Shimano than Push Push SRAM shifting.

So I purchased a Shimano XT Shadow Plus Long Cage rear derailleur and installed it on my Eagle Drive Train. I use a XO 12 Speed Gripshift. As well.

    It works flawlessly.

If I were to now compare XO SRAM to Shimano XT. I would say the best bang for the buck would be Shimano. Significantly less in cost. Has a built in B-Nut setting marker, and has a replaceable clutch. The cable pull is direct right out of the cable, the limit screws are totally accessible and you can no longer confuse one for the other. Shimano... win win!

I'm starting to get a little turned off by the current Sram Eagle RD design. It has it pluses but it's got a bad habit of eating brushes and branches and that cost me a ride today. Is anyone experiencing this with the current Shimano RD (excessive clogging by brushes/branches/debris being eaten up by the RD)?

Heavy brush action, zero XT Rd Brush Clearing. The SRAM thinks it is manufactured by International Harvester... :whistling::p
