You know, having re-read my statement sounds like my kids are shitty. Let me clarify. My kids are 9 and 11 and encompasses the russian socialist mentality that anything within the house is owned by the collective. Unfortunately it bleeds into the land of David (the garage) and on many occasions I see my bike spanners and 1/2" sockets used as barbie stools and hotwheel ramps. I'd get upset if I didn't luv em so much..:whistling: ;)

I was on Vancouver isle rowing my inflatable way past dinner time. It stays daylight forever. I left my shoes on the shore of Lake Cowichan. I came back in and they were gone. My wifee left her shoes there as well, brand new Vans. Her shoes were there. Mine were going to be replace before I left on the adventure but I was out of time so I took those stinkers with me to Canada. My faith in humanity was restored since they took what they needed and left the rest. This is ultra poor back country Canada, they needed um more than me. Now days this is free ride mountain bike country, not so back then. You were not allowed on the forest roads as the log trucks use radio's and haul ass.

Oh man I was that kid I was drawn to the garage and the tools and all those things. My dad asked me many times not to play with his when I look back was an early awesome set of Craftsman socket /ratchet sets. After particular episode I was banned from that and of course I went out and played with them one more time on my bike of course. He came home and walked into my room and asked me if I've been playing with his tools and of course I said no. Then as his ears turned red which I learned was my father's tell for being very angry he produced a muddy socket that he plucked from the gutter.

Let's just say it was a long time before I touched those tools again. Just to be clear he did not corporal punishment but the look dressing down the red ears and the fear the grounding were plenty.

My dad is now 90 years old and we are awfully good buddies ... Laugh about that stuff.

Guess I was the people suck in that story :)

Couldn’t think of a better place to post this: True Story

I’m climbing up the trail at P12 today. A person riding down the trail stops and pulls over.

    I say, “Ah, thanks man!”
He says, “You should get one of these!” As he slaps the side of his Grey eBike.
    I say, “Hah, no... I REALLY don’t.”
He says, “I get a full body work out!”
Getting irritated, I say, “You keep convincing yourself of that little man.”
Undaunted, he says, “In one ride, I can hit all the trails here.”
    I’m beginning to wonder wtf...o_O
I say, “Dude, I can too, and I’m not gay.”
He continued to bloviate, but as I continued past and up the trail, I just put my right hand in the air like a hand puppet and opened and closed my hand like a mouth and spoke over his fading banter, “Blah, Blah, Blah.”

I mean seriously? He has to justify his lame azz E-existence to a passing mountain biker???

When I did my Santa monicas ride a couple weekends ago a group of 3 e-bikers showed up just as I was getting ready. One of them said to his two buddies "sorry guys I'm not going to be able to finish the ride I forgot to charge my bike and it only has 2 bars." I had to ask what was wrong with the bike, can't you still pedal it? And got a dirty look. E-bikers took off ahead of me. About 40mins into the ride the guy on the lame bike (well, they all were lame...) came rolling back down the hill. "So you ran out of juice, huh? Too bad you weren't on a real mountain bike, you could have kept riding". Another dirty look. :Roflmao

Nothing mike. It used to be we could say words like, gay, retard, lame, as those were words my generation grew up with as really meaningless smack talk. But our modern day snowflake society is so sensitized it’s apparently no longer okay.

If I offended someone I do sincerely apologize.

It was common, growing up in the MidWest, to use the phrase "that's so gay" as something stupid or lame... having nothing to do with sexuality. It's an example of a word with two different slang meanings... neither of which have anything to do with it's literal meaning :) It's the beauty of the English language. In fact the word "gay" may be an example of when the slang meaning eventually overtakes the real meaning.

We'll have a gay old time!

I also was the terror of my dad's tool set. However, he had his revenge. He knew I liked to work with tools, so he kept giving me projects. By the time I was ten I was assembling anything that came with instructions that he didn't want to deal with. By the time I was 14, I had taken over all home maintenance, including anything dangerous (mowing the lawn, using the chainsaw) that my mom was scared that my dad would attempt. Now I own an entire garage full of power tools, with a cabinet saw, drum sander, jointer, planer, etc... and my dad still has his single toolbox with a hammer and a handful of screwdrivers.

The strange thing is that I couldn't get either of my kids to so much as TOUCH a tool. I kept trying to get my son to do small little woodworking projects, and he was having none of it. Even today I'm not sure he can change a light bulb :) I guess it gives me "parental security" because he has to call me every time something in his apartment breaks :)

We used to play a game called “Smear the Queer” when we were kids, thinking I’ll teach my son the same game but call it “Overtake the Snowflake.” Then again, that will offend people too.

I'm thinkin' he's referring to his relatives circa 1800's. What was then, was then. We who are now, are now. Personally, I could not possibly care less what your skin color is, or what your religious views are, or how you get your jollies. See, I believe in adulthood. You do your thing, unless or until it impinges on the person or property of another who does not consent.

Would that more of you saw it this way.

@Mikie I can only abuse those e-bikers who ignore the rules and therefore impinge on those who do not consent to their actions. Whether or not those rules are good is another conversation.

Do you really want to go down that road???

I grew up with those words too (and worse...like beaner, wetback, paisa, etc.) even though I'm not of your generation; I'm 43.

I would never apologize for it but I'm the type who has been thrown to the wolves both in my personal and professional life and have returned leading the pack. It's what made me extremely successful.

It's a sad day when a grown man feels compelled to apologize for using such words among friends. And for the record, I don't use the words gay, retard, lame, lil' bitch, f@ggot, etc. to insult people. 99% of the time I use them as terms of endearment among friends.
