MS/Motorway 12/27

Looks like a stiff cool breeze but otherwise perfect conditions for a slushy slog over the rim. Extra socks wouldn’t be a dumb idea if you don’t have waterproof ones.

The vistas are going to be epic. Mildly envious.

 

Why why why why why is this ride starting at 8 am? I guess those who don't post trailhead invites don't get to select the time - but why so early this time of year, with the amount of snow they got last night? Trying to get to Motorway before the thaw?

I will want to join in on this if the roads are closed to Mt. High in the morning, but I don't think I will have time to switch out my stuff and get there by 8. That said - don't change for me. The chance of me joining in are about 22.6739%.

 

It could be more fun with some firmness to it. And 2.6" tires.

It’s supposed to be a balmy 40 degrees in Silverado by 8:00. I’m probably overpacked...

 

Just a heads up. My brother and I had a really tough day today(see what I rode today thread). We are pretty wiped out. I still would like to do this ride but I may not have it in me this time. We are still considering at least trying the climb then turning back down before four corners if it’s too much. But if we are not there by 8, don’t wait for us. We would be there in a white Honda mini van if we muster enough energy to give it a try.

 

All the more reason to change the start time! Nudge nudge...

And if you make it to this ride at any time given what you put yourselves through today, I will be amazed.

I will be there. Show up so I don't have an excuse to bail out if I'm the only one at the gate at 8:00!

@Redman - I'm debating between the single speed and the Hightower. They both have 29ers on now, but the single speed is so much lighter to push through snow.

 

If you haven't found an excuse by 8 I reckon you'll have one by 8:15 after having listened to me dribble sh!t whilst heading up the hill

Oh and bring a slow bike, I'll be on the Whyte (26" fo lyfe)

Seriously!!!!!! Mountainbikeaneering is fun!

Gaiters is all ya need if ya ride flats. Not sure about SPD shoes that far in those conditions. Take a page from @Old&InTheWay's playbook...high all-weather boots FTW.

I dunno, hiking in too-deep-for-riding snow is way more enjoyable without pushing along a bike too imo

 

We passed several hikers on snow shoes... The first was below the spring!

I should have brought the micro spikes today. In the early morning there was the most ice I've seen on Maple Spring in a long time.
