It's pretty wet here but I would like to do a fitness maintenance ride today. It's gonna be fire roads if I can get the gumption to go. The cloud line is very low here in my area. Just the base of the Verdugos showing. The San Gabes are gone.

I was hoping to head over to JRA to pick up my Lauf True Grit demo and at least get some road miles in but alas I have to work.

As I figured all along, "gravel bikes" are becoming more and more like XC mountain bikes with drop bars installed. First, it was disc brakes, then it was an adjustment to the frame geo, then it was fatter/knobby tires, and now I am seeing them with front suspension travel. Yesterday, I saw a she-rider with a Lefty fork on her "gravel bike". Her mate had about the fattest tires on his that I have ever seen on gravel bike.

Should I just put drop bars on my Jabber and call it good?

Seeetness! Hire can you not like that bike?

I’d show you around Greer in a New York minute. IF I could ride today:mad: That place should be top notch right now. I’ll be surprised if your not stoked on the bike.

    Have you met Herzalot?

The bike is already starting in the hole because of the name on the side! Maybe if he got rid of the stickers...

Well it's not like it says Specialized on the side!

I dig Santa Cruz bikes, but I get anxiety when I am just like everyone else. That's why I can't do huge group rides like the Ugly Sweater ride and other massive events. Just another drone in the hive.

That said, I didn't ever try the previous version of the Hightower, but this lower link thingy seems to work really well, and just dinking around setting up the bike, it seems really solid and quiet already. Except the g-dam Reverb seat post, which is currently a suspension seat post that sinks when I sit on it. I've demo'd three bikes with Reverbs, and none of them worked right. One wouldn't extend all the way without me pulling it up, (that happens after a certain age...), one made a ton of noise and was reluctant to sink and this one has ED. It may extend to full length briefly, but when asked to perform, it shrinks.

So, in spite of the weather and the shrinking post, I may try to get in a Luge lap from Cooks. Perhaps the good people at The Path Live Oak can fix the seatpost for me before I ride.

@herzalot the reverb probably needs a little air.

Ditch that thing and get a PNW Components Bachelor post! Never again with a Reverb.

It's not mine. And isn't it hydraulic?

The Path fixed it for me so that I could go ride it. I will not buy a Reverb.

When you consider our seat post angles it's like you're jamming them when dropped and raised. My Fox droppers stick now but they always work. If I were a racer this condition might not be tolerable. BTW I don't service my droppers either. At nearly 1 year old the Reverb on my Chameleon is working perfectly.

You should try it some time. In my opinion, you feel like anything BUT a drone in the hive. Everyone is there to have a good time, and everyone is there to be unique and dress up differently - almost like a Halloween party. Unless, of course, you feel like a drone at a Halloween party.

But ultimately, the ride isn't about the ride. It's about donating food to a food shelter. So if you want some emotion pay-off with zero effort, just show up and donate some food - the ride is strictly optional :)

Nothing but clay in them thar hills. Unfortunately I won't be picking up the gravel bike until this week so I'll be climbing some of the steeper roads around here on my MTB. Last ride before the Challenge Ride Saturday.

Sweet! The loam lever is Money!!!

Didn’t catch the Mayday jump on Friday fails when did it come out? Mind sending me the link? Mayday is an unsanctioned trail built by the local builders. Everyone knows about it and rides just won’t be found on TF. It’s super steep and gnarly!

I watched the latest FFails listed on the homepage and I think it's in there. But not positive...

Thunderboomer rolling through SE Phoenix metro dropped hail and rain today. But you know the desert, sunny tomorrow...with a 80% chance of shredding dust- and crowd-free trails on SoMo. :sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:

SoMo is awesome on week days. Total ghost town. And a crazy madhouse on weekends. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

I was out working on the hills, all weekend and this evening. Plenty of surface moisture but the soak is only a couple inches deep, after that it's still dry. I need to wait a few days for the trails to be firm enough where I will not leave tracks.
This last rain was not very big but went from Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon. Mostly mist but some rain. So it all sank in, but as the post holes witnessed still not very deep.
happy wet top layers to a dry trail.
