Higher temperatures than initially forecast, but the snow is falling on Truckee. Lots of flakes lying around...me and the cats included.

Late-season riding...a la 2017? How long can it last?

Haha, @herzalot. It’s all relative. : ) I visited Florida once when they announced a wind chill advisory.

    220px-California_Electricity_Generation_Sources_Pie_Chart.svg.png

I am not aware of ANY California electricity that comes from coal. Coal is heavy, and is not readily available in the West. The majority of our fossil fuel generation is natural gas - which is complimentary with renewable sources like solar, hydro and wind. It is much easier to fire up a gas power plant than a coal power plant - coal takes somewhere around 8 hours between the time you start the process and when you actually begin generating. The same process with natural gas takes 10-30 minutes (depending on the type of plant). Also... natural gas produces about HALF the CO2 per kWhr of generation that coal does, and ZERO particulates.

That said... that biggest problem with electricity in this state came from the late 1990's... when the CPUC allowed our utilities to spin off their generation capacity and "contract" for electricity generation with out-of-state operators. Remember Enron? Yeah... those guys. Biggest scam foisted on the California public in the history of the state - and no one went to prison. We pay the highest electricity rates in the country - 5x as much (for example) what they pay in North Carolina.

LOL that's nothing! If there's one thing I can't stand, it's getting ripped off by the government! I have spent 20 years studying why our electricity is 5x as expensive as other parts of the country :) If there's one thing worse than a monopoly, it's a monopoly that is protected by the government!

Yeah, but my heating oil bill is Way less than the north east US so I guess it's a trade off. My electric bill last month? $3.02.... I'll take it...:)...

Now gasoline that's another story.....was in Vermont and it was $2.49 a gal regular...and the stations typically had only one or two cars at their busiest.

I've just become numb to the way we're ripped off here in Calif on gas etc.

just got back from the Ozarks, I rented a big Ram 4x4. Gas was as low as 2.17. but I paid 2.23 by MCI Kansas City. The gov just said no enhanced oil production. I think he is afraid that with more he will need to tax us even more than the buck 75 he is stealing from my pocket on every gallon or 31 dollars a tank. We have to take the state back from the lunatic fringe
happy being milked by big gov california.

Wild today. Cell came over and hammered the homestead. Had cleared my outside drains but some leaves must have washed out of the gutters and I was getting flooded for a while. Pea gravel hail, wind and lightning. Had to wait to go out and clear things up. Then the clouds thinned enough to see the snow on the San Gabriels. Hope the brown powder is now washed off the hill trails. Loving it!
