 Ummmmm..... ewww and owwwwwwy! So how the hell did you do that? Looks way too deep for a pedal gouge. Assuming you did it while riding. Did you have those butterfly closures with you?

PS: You can still ride with stitches, right? Throw a soccer shin guard on to make sure to protect it.

I was riding the Gabrielino towards West Fork. I went into one of the numerous G-out turns with water crossings, front wheel slid out on a greasy rock and dumped me into a ravine. The angular slabs were not nice to my shin, which took the impact.
I immediately saw the problem, took a few deep breaths and went to work. My homemade first aid kit contains the butterfly bandages, some 4x4 guaze, and some duct tape.
That was enough to get me back the 6 miles to my van.
Tibia is nice and white. Saw it a couple of times... No fractures.

And yes, I feel I could ride this weekend. My license to fly has been yanked by the wife and MIL.
    For now...

Now THAT's the story I would expect from you. Good work sir. Sorry for the mishap, but handled like a champ. The missus and MIL will come around by Friday.

Yeah. When I got back to my van at Red box, I redid the dressing/butterflys and drove to the ER. They told me it would be a 4-5hr wait because I was not "actively bleeding".
Went to Urgent care down the street and was out in an hour or so.
Don't know how many stitches and there is an open spot or two where the rock ripped the skin instead of cutting it.
There goes my leg modeling career!

It's smart to have those butterfly closures out on the trail. I'll be checking my first aid kits here shortly and adding those in. I hope you heal up fast!

I think I can make this. I'll have to skip a soccer game, but it wouldn't be the first one.

    Snitches get stitches! :sneaky:

    Nice gaiters, BTW!

Might be a good time to bring these socks to everyone's attention, with sewn in shin protection for $10/pr. I picked up 2pr a couple months ago, mostly used for overgrown trails but they might have helped @rossage here. They're a little toasty on hot days but the pads are a bit similar to G-form pads where they stiffen up on impact. Not super wide, but they offer protection on the front of the shin where rock and pedal strikes hurt the most. Happy with them so far.

No, but there's nothing stopping you from buying a pair, cutting off the feet and wearing them on your fore arms. Once you wear out the sock feet of course.
