What The He!! Just Happened!

What the hell just happened was I completely failed to adhere to my #1 rule for 150% focus while sitting on a mountain bike saddle. I have in the last week posted to many times on this crashing thread!
I repeatedly here the phrase “bikes are fun” I agree, and they are dangerously fun at all times!
If I can get one person to think this way then maybe this kind of stupid accident will be avoided?
Yesterday Fran The Man and I were in Wrightwood having what you might say was an awesome ride in the forest on some quality ST. Ironically before the accident I had made a calculated run at a short but risky section of rocky tech with penalty for failure, of which I had not cleaned in the past, but cleaned it this time.
A little later in the ride we rolled up to Inspiration Point on are way Blue Ridge and stopped, on the SIDEWALK for a gawk, continuing on while still on the SIDEWALK , I turned to Fran who was slightly behind me on the left while being to close to the edge of the SIDEWALK and went right off, saw what awaited me and thought OOOH Sh!t! THIS ISN’T GOING TO GO WELL!
While having half of a split second to react, I managed to maneuver my body just enough from complete impalement. It could have been so much worse! Came home took a shower and decided to go to the urgent care, it turned out my hand had a deeper cut, but all in all in comparison, just a graze.
Note to self, PAY ATTENTION DUMB ASS!

Another few inches one way or another and @scan would have been filling out paperwork for a long time!

Yikes glad it wasn’t worse as that could have been really ugly. Hope you heal up quickly and good thing you had level headed Fran with you. You’re right bikes are usually fun but not when you’re falling off of them.

One of my top 5 rules: NEVER look back while heading downhill under any circumstances. If you have to look back, pull off to the side.

Yes, Fran was the man with a first aide kit for some quick work to prevent infection, not me. Thanks Fran The Man! Time to hit Rite Aide.

 

The pick is not of my cute butt, it is of my swollen hammy right about the middle. My butt is much cuter than that.

 

Well that sucks. Glad it wasn't worse. Congrats on cleaning the previously uncleaned section (of trail, not of your body)!

Yikes!!! Glad you missed more than you hit. But the important question is how is the bike?

 

I agree but I violate it ALL THE TIME and chastise myself. My other big one is no jumps or drops w/o knowing what's on the other side. Violating that one has cost me a broken femur & more on a dirt bike and a separated shoulder on a snowboard.

 

To me this is an obvious one unless you suspect you are being chased by a mountain lion or bear., or maybe @Mikie .
Thing is, this had nothing to do with going down hill. This one hurts and is very embarrassing! But a perfect wake up call.

 

And definitely the never if you don’t know what is on the other side.

 

Wow, The leg gash looks bad but, I imagine the hand will be more uncomfortable while it heals. Heal-up fast!

Look any better? I must have landed on the concrete footing judging by my bruising. I’ll be going up there soon to either cut it down low with a sawzalll or bend it over with a sledge hammer, something that should have been done already, I’m sure it was vandalism by an asshat!

 

That wound's looking pretty angry - and downright impressive!

Good job cleaning up the spot so no one else suffers a similar or worse fate.

Sooooo........ We were having an awesome ride, taking a break at Inspiration point. As we started up , I was a several feet to @hill^billy 's left, when he pointed in the distance and I looked left, when I heard that "OH SH...." yell. Turning back to look at him I saw doug hit the ground, just missing that concrete section as well as that remaining post sticking up. We were both amazed that he wasn't impaled by it, or hit a major artery!!!
As we all know it doesn't take but a fraction of a second for things to go south in a hurry. Glad I had my little first aide kit with me.
Take it easy doug and we'll ride again soon!!

HB, I think a reride through WW is in order as soon as you are ready to get back on the bike. But you gotta clean that concrete walkway this time!
