The highest point in the range is White Mountain Peak, which at 14,252 ft (4,344 m) is the third-highest summit in California. This peak is actually an extinct volcano rising about 1,600 ft (490 m) above the plateau surface. The summit is composed of Mesozoic metavolcanic rock.
This is from Wiki so it must be true. I know you can ride this although the last is pretty tough. I have always wanted to get there but by the time I reach Bishop I always find someplace else to go. Who would have thought. But its not everyday you can ride a downhill from 14,252 and get a 10,000 ft + drop so it does sound enticing.

Tis the season... I really appreciated the shady spots today.

 

I slept in on Saturday and Sunday. Got out of bed at 8 and it was already past the point of being able to ride

Allegedly you desert animals are nocturnal.

 

You’d think all the years of surfing I’d get up early but the 4:30 alarm gets pushed off ever now and then. Not at all the same but just got a peloton and it’s helped me during the 2.5 really hot months.

 

I rode my bike today, and it was glorious! 14/1,800’. Beat the heat! Beat the particulates! Beat the O3! Live to fight another day!The bank up the street said 108*. I hope I passed down some of my Schmeat genes to my girls. It would benefit them.

 

Just read someone died on the Backbone trail today. Don't know hiker or biker.
Be careful in this heat.
I'm going paddling in the water the rest of the weekend.

That sounds like a miserable way to die.

 

The last time I rode in these conditions was July 6, 2018, and I couldn’t get out of bed the next morning. Remember Herzie? I showed up 2 1/2 hours late to our bike ride the next day.

 

A buddy of rolled up on the scene and after seeing that decided to pull the plug on his ride. Very sad.

 

Currently 85 degrees in the Crescenta Valley (and it's only 6:30am). I can't even open the windows this morning for some fresh air.

 

Just saw on channel 4 they had to rescue someone off strawberry yesterday as well...

just got back from my office... wicked up to 106.7 by silverado canyon on my way home on the motorcycle...

87 at 620 this morning on my quick mtn bike ride in Coto...

sooo many roadies and a few mtn bikers in santiago canyon...

dont know how they ride in 100+ degree weather

smell of smoke in the air too.

FWIW... high today in NoCar was 80... with low humidity

 

July 5th 2018 on santiago canyon. Had just got back from cancun, where I thought it was hot, but nope. OC...it did drop down to 118 which is what I think the real temp was.

 

Imagine how mad people would be if you wouldn’t endure your truck’s cargo atmosphere to get them their stuff?

Yea, but we got the Lakers!

 

Most people have no idea. 100° outside temp equals 120° in the cab and over 140° in the cargo area. You just have to pace yourself. Imagine though with this weekend's temps.

 

This is why we don’t order our dark chocolate M&Ms from the internet.

 

That explains why the bulk bag delivered only contained one deformed giant MnM.

 

And that's why there's always a small cooler sitting on my front porch with refreshments. Cold water, gatorade, soda and umm even a couple beers on Saturday for the gardeners. It's amazing how such a simple gesture puts a smile on a hardworking guys face and the service we receive in return is amazing.

 

Maybe via a sword through the back of the neck at the peak of climax..?
