Goin' big!

 

Just transferred over the parts from the Burner but went 1x11 and with the Fox Float X2. First ride today.

After 2 years of procrastination, I finally broke down and built up a flat bar road/gravel bike so I can stop riding my Primer as my default road bike. I didn’t even weigh it but this thing is crazy light to someone coming off a 28+ lb MTB....Ultegra drivetrain built up with SLX level brakes.

 

It's lite, and it has speed... what a good combination!

Well, this bike definitely isn’t new, and it isn’t a mountain bike, but I figured I could post it here anyway. When I started seriously cycling in high school back in the 80’s, I really wanted a Celeste Bianchi Nuovo Racing. Unfortunately being a poor high school student, all I could afford was a Schwinn. A couple of my riding buddies have recently started to restore and ride vintage road bikes which gave me a good idea. I’d start searching for that bike that I couldn’t afford when I was 14. Wasn’t able to find the Nuovo Racing that I wanted, but I did come across this locally on CL. 1986 Bianchi Vittoria. Looks pretty much intact other than the tires. Looks like the original brake pads and the braking surfaces look new. I don’t think it was ridden much in 33 years. A lot of the vintage Bianchi’s that I had located previously were either beat up or had a mis-match of components. Full Campagnolo Victory groupset and Mavic rims. From the decal on the non-drive side chainstay, the bike was purchased locally at 2 Wheel Transit Authority. Going to start the tear down and cleaning process this week.

 

Nice!! Looks to have pretty stout gearing too.

 

That was back when cyclists were real men....heavy bikes, difficult gearing, scary geometry.

I only had one road bike back in the day when the shifters were on the down tube like that and that was on a Schwinn Le Tour that I bought for $425. Might as well have been a Ferrari at that price back then. If I had to reach down there to shift nowadays, I'd need a full face helmet and shoulder pads because there's no doubt I'd be going OTB.

 

Nice...the color looks much better in person (and in your photos) that is did on the initial IG posts that came out. I have buddy that's going to demo that bike for (2) days in Downieville so I may take it for a run.
