New to iMTB

Hey everyone!

I'm on (or have been on) the other various mtb forums. I don't participate on them much these days because a lot of it's the same topic just rehashed and time constraints. A friend told me about iMTB a while ago, but I finally did some perusing today and liked what I saw. Judging by the trail advocacy and trail maintenance sections it looks like the folks on here are interested bettering the mtb community, which is really cool! I went to the meeting that the Laguna Canyon Foundation (LCF) had in the fall of last year. I wasn't particularly happy with all of the LCF's answers and also wasn't happy with some of the bikers during the meeting. After that meeting I decided I needed to step up and have attended almost every weekend trail maintenance day that LCF has had since then. (Pretty sure I've only missed one.) I'm hoping to expand out of just doing LCF trail days and contributing more to the community. The Chiquito trail day on the 20th is looking intriguing. Never ridden there but not opposed to working on it despite that.

As far as riding I haven't been getting out nearly as much as I would like to, so I'm currently working on changing that. I live in Aliso, so I do ride there some, but typically avoid it on the weekends because of the crowds. I also hit all the other stuff around OC and occasionally get out of the area though not as much as I would like. I'm working on my consistency and will be doing some pre-work morning rides again, starting around 6:15-6:30, usually Santiago Oaks or the occasional early morning Luge ride sprinkled in.

Randy is one of my favorite characters, so I'll likely be rotating a few avatars over time.

Regarding LCF on trail maintenance and improvement, my initial reaction is that there needs to be more of both along with being more proactive. However, I am not sure it's fair to place this all on LCF. I've talked with them at lengths about this during trail days and they are constrained by various things. The two biggest being lack of volunteers, especially consistent ones, and getting approval from the rangers. I'm happy to get into both of those topics though I may get long winded. (A quick example of the rangers' impact is a number of trail days were cancelled because wet conditions which is frustrating because this when I would think we could be making some large sustainable changes/improvements.) Also, worth noting is that during trail days they've asked us, mountain bikers, specifically for input on some of the sections. These aren't huge changes to trails, but it's a start. They are not mtbr's, nevertheless, they've been very nice to me and I think they would welcoming if more of the community would participate in actual work.

I'm not as well educated on trail politics & history as I would like so I'm working through the 18 pages of the "aliso-wood-and-laguna-coast-wilderness-parks" thread.

Frazier Park! I'm a bit jealous of how close you are to Mt Pinos. It's been a few years since I've ridden that trail, but it's one of my favorites.

Haha, I will be up for one in a few months, just need a little time to build my legs & lungs back.
