Blackstar Break-Ins

Two of the Trail Angels had cars broken into last Thursday. They were parked at the gate and when they got back their passenger window was smashed in. Not sure if anything was taken.
Keep a look out - :evil:

I parked at the tree farm yesterday, but I usually ride from home or Whiting. Looks like that's the better plan!

I'd have to guess that the weekends are actually safer, with how many people are always in the parking lot.

Oh dang. Now i guess I'll have to ride from the house...by Knott's. That'll suck.

 

Park at the shopping plaza by Whiting, head up Mustard, and drop onto Santiago Canyon Road for a couple miles to Blackstar... It's a nice loop, if you don't mind a couple miles on the road each way.

 

If you are going to do that you can park at Cook's Corner and take the Canyon too. A bit more road, but an easier climb (if you want to save some of your legs for Blackstar).

 

I'm close by. We should .. ride-pool???

There was a kickstarter project where a guy converted his BOB trailer for electric assist. It was used to get to the trailhead then detaches.

 

If you ride on the weekends, Andy, don't sweat it. There are a lot of people who park at the gate, and there is always someone arriving/leaving. In fact, if you start late, you'll have to park surprisingly far from the gate.

 

The few times I have been, I've been during the week...

Last time I parked at the xmas tree lot, some telecom guy seemed to be asking too many questions (although I think he was genuinely interested, as nothing bad happened)

I like the idea of riding along Santiago Canyon Rd to B*
However I don't like the idea of being killed by some hit-n-run meth head...

 

somebody I follow on strava just posted a bunch of cars had their windows smashed - including his. He didn't say what day, but as he posted it tonight, I'm guessing it was today. Guess the busier weekends are not a deterrent....
