Dropping down 7 Oaks is cheating isn't it? A really hellacious ride would go up and over Sugarloaf. Just sayin' :whistling:

The earlier the better! When I was in the Army, if you could see daylight when you woke up, you were doing something wrong! :) Heck... today it was black at 5:30 AM with just a little color on the horizon. 5:30 isn't "early".

This ride is too big for my britches, but I look forward to seeing the after-ride reports!

I pedal to work starting at 5:15. Which is much better than when I had to leave by 2:15!

Soooooo tempting. These numbers are definitely beyond my current reach. However, this ride is not for 5-1/2 weeks. I got time to up my game.

I soo wanna do this ride... my main hesitations are moving into new home Oct 19th weekend and my slow pace climbing especially on longer rides. I'm sure i can follow everyone's dust on the DH sections but i am "Tortuga Especial" on the climbs.

Will that strava route be the official route? My thinking is no matter how slow i am, i can always just keep chugging along following the gps tracks.

How do you guys sort out the shuttling logistics?

I'll sort out the shuttle when it gets closer and i have a solid headcount.

The route I posted is the route. The only variation would be about 1/4 mile extra if you want to bag Morton Peak, and that is just out and back.

Morton Peak is 100% worth it if the tower is open.

Your route also skips some SART singletrack right after the A.O. post office:
    https://www.strava.com/routes/15532167
It's a fun little segment of the SART.

Don't think of it as 4500 feet of climbing. Think of it as 10,000 feet of DH. :D

And... I just reread the write up from last time. No XC tires for me this time. I can imagine how dry it is this year up there... This is going to be a day for the Minion to come out and play. And new brake pads and rotors all the way around.

    Jason,
u know about the sugarloaf (not to the peak but to )wildhorse meadows route to SART, then hell ride route to Redlands? what ya think is harder/more elevation? 7 oaks might be shorter/steeper.. wildhorse might be more scenic.. never been on wild horse.. been on 7 oaks.. down from skyline...

umm.. so many trails still to be had...

Wild horse is great, but you have to get up there somehow. It is often possible to shuttle it but it takes a while. It is not a bad climb. But to start in Big bear and climb up becomes a very big day. Especially if going up and over Sugarloaf. That is some very tough HAB at elevation

I looked at profiles and decided I'm going to aim for Wildhorse Meadow via Heart Bar Camp. I have some unfinished business on that route. Shorter shuttle, more singletrack, less climbing, sub-alpine, more DH. Zilla, I'll try to talk you into this route if I get the green light. Quality new dirt is easy on the eyes and group-friendly.
