Grades are demoralizing and make some kids feel bad. Everyone is a valedictorian!

On a rented Hightower in Oregon last week, a clipped a deadfall stump with my pedal and went flying down the trail. No bueno. Fortunately no damage than some missing skin and a cracked helmet. That has me thinking a lot about BB height as I consider my next purchase. What I'm wondering, as I compare different bikes I've ridden and liked, does 0.10 inch really make a difference?

.1? Probably not... But aren't we talking about larger clearances than that?

On my short list right now are the Jeffsy and the Smash/ Trail Pistol. All are 13+

I think it does, in theory, fact, science, liberal arts and tarot card reading. :geek: But I think B.B. height at sag is, ultimately, the measurement to consider. You could get .1 inch with new pedals and a couple pounds in the shock/fork, or maybe by taking a big dump beforehand.

Was just checking out bikes on my short list, and the Pivot 429 Trail is 13.5". But it is crazy-expensive, so Tallboy w/ a 13" is close enough!

If I go back to full squish I'm just going to overfork an Epic. Still lucky to get 13.5 " bb height...

0.10 inch shy of contact? No problem. 0.10 inch of contact with the wrong thing at the wrong time? No bueno.

They have an Epic Evo with a 120 fork. Good colors but they hang all that SRAM all over the frame....

That's right. I remember seeing the Evo now. BTW SRAM is the sole reason I did not buy another Specialized.

Yeah Tom my older bike bottom bracket 13.3 in, the newer one is 12.9. That sure explains my increased pedal strikes

I leave for 12 hours and Pedal strikes have morphed into

    Theories on theories and facts,
    climate change and
    wake and bake

    Pretty much sums up IMTBtrails...

    FACTORIUM*

Factorium is a portmanteau, a blending of the words facts and emporium.

The word portmanteau was first used in this sense by Lewis Carroll in his book Through the Looking-Glass (1871), in which Humpty Dumpty explains to Alice the coinage of the unusual words in "Jabberwocky", where slithy means slimy and lithe and mimsy is "miserable and flimsy.

For fun sometimes I switch bikes with the weezil. I probably have 9" to the BB on her bike, pretty fun on smooth DH.

Aside, she looks remarkably comfortable on my Smash, even with the 450# spring. She 5-3, me 5-10, both riding medium frames. I never...

Lets get this crazy train back on the rails:

Using the High setting will gain another .25" in BB height, and/or over-forking by 10mm, you will preserve the seat and headtube angles too.
