+100 degree club

Heck, I'm sweating just reading these posts.

 

It was 58° when I started my ride yesterday and 104° when I finished. You just need to acclimate.

 

OK gentlemen (and ladies), it's officially HOT.

My bad knee has become inflamed over the course of the day. That's the signal.

 

I think I'll wait 'til 20:30 and go run a few miles instead.

I had no idea that heat, of all things, made the waves bigger/better?

 

I'm in the club (almost) and I'm in the house. Our Willis H. Carrier unit is on the fritz! Ach, Scheisse!

And yes, I'll refer to it as the Willis Carrier unit. His childhood home was next to my high school in New York. The father of modern air conditioning was from Buffalo of all places. They really don't appreciate him there for some reason.

 

If it's over 100° who cares if the waves are good? It just feels good to get in the water. What's bad (for lifeguards) is when there's a 6' or bigger swell when it's over 100° inland. Sooooo many people in the water who have no clue how powerful even the smallest waves and currents can be...

 

Ah, so it's all about cooling off in the water. I see. Your idea of cooling off is surfing.

Now I know why we have so many Great White sharks patrolling our coastline. Smart lil' buggers.

 

104 when we started and 102 when we finished only 6 miles later. 6pm start 7:30 finish. No direct sunlight but very warm. Hulda Crook

This is the worst heat wave of the year so far. I wonder how this bodes for the rest of the year – hopefully not scorching until November like some past years.

I used to work in an engine room that would top 200*. 100 is just a nuisance.

 

Welcome to my world. Steel fabrication/welding shops out in the IE..,,nothing more than gigantic metal sheds with zero insulation and no ventilation. 100* is usually the starting point.

 

Kinda like that. Four locomotive engines (two Fairbanks-Morse opposed piston engines and two 8-645 EMD's) plus two boilers. It's a lot like working UNDER the hood of a semi truck going down the freeway. The engines are fully exposed, there is no wall, or any form of insulation. I'll dig up a photo later.

 

It hit 114° in the IE earlier this summer. Only 108° yesterday. I'll take it.

 

The clouds came in right in time for my commute. Air temp dropped about 5* right before I left. Let's see what today brings...

 

I feel like such a sissy now. It's only 125 in my cab and 150+ in the back. That's on a 100+ degree day of course.

 

I think it has topped 75 in my office today.

11:02am and 92 degrees in the shade here.

 

I don't work very hard anymore (I hope?), so I'm not complaining. My job is much easier than cleaning pools, doing deliveries, or metal fab.

I just like to remember the Sh!t I used to do so I continue to appreciate what I have now.

 

It is supposed to top out at 112 here in Bako today. Did my ride earlyish to avoid the heat, but that's hard to do around here.

 

Meanwhile, at my work...

I try to tell them there is nothing wrong with the equipment, the equipment isn't designed for this weather. What do they do? Spend about $100,000 to buy replacement equipment, with a LOWER temp limit. Why would they take the advice of a refrigeration expert (me)?

 

It's a fluke.

22pools down 8 to go. Luckily they are mostly clean. Brushing a pool top to bottom is no fun, luckily only 1 of those so far.

 

I bet you can't wait until the Fall! All those beautiful leaves!
