    Cool, and thanks for the welcome. Do you have an opinion on how well those 3 tires will roll on the pavement? Looking forward to the beer afterwards;

I'd still prefer to start early....we are still gonna be under the gun because of the lack of top end speed.

I ran 2.1 Maxxis Aspen(F) and 2.1 Kenda Small Block 8(R) last year on the Highball.....it was fast and had enough bite for the dirt sections.

This year I have 2.1 Geax Mezcall.....the front is brand new, and the rear is about 60%:

Hi Bob, didn't see your post, glad @Faust29 @mtnbikej addressed it! Any tire with the word "nano" in it's name would be good! The Nano40 is my everyday tire I do my non-MTB riding on. It rolls great on pave. No experience with the others you listed. A regular sized Nanoraptor would be good for this ride as well. I also like Thunder Burts a lot. Notice I'm veering to higher volume yet fast-rolling tires. The more comfortable you are, the better the ride will be! The 100km route is going to be closer to 2/3 dirt, so something that gives you comfort and grip is better. That said, there will be a good chunk of people on 25mm slicks. They can do it fine, but are going to carry bikes across the wash shown above, and have to ride the slippery ball-bearings on cement-like dirt trails a bit more cautiously :)
Glad you can make it and thanks for checking out this whole IMTB thing!!!!

My only experience is with the Nano, and I bought it specifically for that center ridge. It rolls extremely well on the asphalt sections.

Thank you very much Gunnar. I am glad to hear more dirt than half. Great tire info, I will use the WTB Nano on the front, and problably the Panaracer Comet on the back. Awesome resource, glad I found IMTB. Thanks again.

Thank you Faust. Good to hear from someone that rides the Nano, other than the marketing, that it rolls well on the road too.

The Highball is ready to go in skinny mode with 2.0 Bontragers front and back... Thanks to @mtnbikej . Not as skinny as the el Mariachi last year with the 700 x 40 Nanos, but a lot less meaty than the 2.35 Ralph that was on the front.

Now I'm wondering if I should change the gearing a touch...

That crossed my mind as well. I'm a little concerned pushing a bigger gear for 90 miles on unknown trails. It would help on the flats, but might slow down on the climbs.

My concern would be my left knee and the damage that Mr. Mendez caused. It didn't like it last time I went to a smaller cog... Time to study the elevation chart more closely.

The jump to the 21t is a 2" gear increase.

Reminder that you can do registration this evening from 4-8 @ Ritual Brewing (next day's start).
There is un-advertised same-day registration if anyone is on the fence. Would rather have you come in late to register and ride rather than stay home!
Weather is going to be in the low 80's, I don't think there's a big need to have an early-early start. The 30 milers might want to go with the 60's, but I don't think the 90's need to leave super early. SS complicates that recommendation of course...

What time does registration open up in the morning?

    Still probably gonna leave early.

It's not like the new math they're teaching the kids. Just find the gear that makes you puke on climbs and add one tooth. I call it the P + 1 formula.

Opens @ 6:15. Early start is 7:00. It's pretty festive to be part of the mass start, one of my favorite parts of the day!

Yeah, but we are gonna be pushing for time this year....not as bad as last year, so we may have to get a jump on the rest.

This was an early section of the 90 mile course near Grand Terrace. But probably 99% of the 90 mile riders use gravel/adventure bikes, helps with all the road miles between the dirt and the dirt you do ride doesnt require much tire or suspension.

The 90 and 30 milers are probably 50% dirt. So a CX bike helps out a lot with the other half! Just got everything packed and put away. Always great meeting the diverse and interesting people out there! I saw Stave and J out there for a minute. Everything else is sort of a blur! I hope everything had a great time on their bikes!!!
