    Ride Name: Loch Leven + Post Office Loop
    When: Saturday August 27th
    Time: 9:00
    Where: Loch Leven Trailhead
    Ride Description or Details:
    One of my favorite local rides. My friend Mike from Carlsbad is coming up, so figure I'd throw an invite out and see if anyone wanted to join in. Casual pace up the hill, great singletrack through the valley, as fast a pace as you want back down the hill. A decent amount of climbing. You can see the write up from last weekend: http://www.imtbtrails.com/forum/threads/i-rode-my-bike-today.2149/page-149#post-61285 Saturday's temps should be pretty nice, so not worried about the heat. Highly suggest bringing a bug net, there are LOTS of gnats.
    ~~~~~ Optional Details ~~~~~
    Elevation Gain: 3,000
    Ride Duration: At most four hours. That's when it was really hot and I took lots of breaks riding solo.
    The climb is long, but a constant grade, never really steep. Six miles of it though. Then another three after the singletrack.
    Probably not worth getting fired over. I guess...
    It's a good morning out. Beautiful scenery, SART is fantastic. There were about 10 trees down which kind of dampens the vibes a touch, but make it a bit of an adventure.
    Was on the post office loop about a month ago way too many trees across the trail for this time of the year. Forest Service very slow getting out there with a chain saw to clear trail. By the time I got to post office loop I was over 20 miles into a ride and near 4k of climbing and was not in the mood to be climbing over trees.
    I was there last weekend, had fun luckily the trees are at the end of the P.O so they aren't to much of a vibe killer. Have a good time. Racing Sunday otherwise I would be there.
    I was going to say the same thing. There were so many trees (and kinda difficult to get around/over) that I decided to skip that part when I did SART a couple of weeks ago.
    I counted about 10 trees across the trail. But they didn't bother me too much. Gave me a chance to catch my breath! Only one was pretty difficult to get over.
    Currently taking a break from futily trying to mount my rear tire that I just swapped out, and having zero luck. Drying it out so I can slap on some Gorilla Tape as I could see bubbles coming out the spoke holes. Maybe that will seal it up enough. Worst case scenario I throw in a tube as goatheads shouldn't be a problem. Shouldn't just left the worn tire on there...
    Damn tire won. Can't get it to set into place, using Gorilla Tape which is definitely thicker than Stans. That may be the problem. Bad time to experiment :( Gave up and tried putting a tube in, but so tight I needed to use a lever, and of course pinched the tube in the process. I quit for the night! Worst case scenario I have to ride my monstercross which will be fine, but not what I want to do. First world problems.
    GREAT time today. Buds from SD made it up here without incident. A couple of neighbors jumped on board as well. Weather was PERFECT overcast morning, burning off to blue skies. My back was messed up from yesterday, and that led to a tough climb up. I was going to turn around as I didn't think I could do the single track, but everyone encouraged me to keep going. Glad I did, as the ride was great. A bunch of trees down, but climbing over trees in the mountains beats hanging around the house! Four hours riding up there, then down to the local pizza joint downtown for well earned carb loading!
    Those trees need to go bye bye. Next time up there I will stop in the ranger station and ask where the hot shots have been. I know it has been a bad fire season but they have had since last winter to get it done. Maybe I can enlist Kanga to do the work he has forest service permit to use a chain saw in the forest. Or maybe I will pull a firewood permit and do it myself.
    Dean, they have definitely been there for a while. I'm surprised as the P.O. Loop is what I consider a pretty accessible and therefore popular/well-used trail. It's not some obscure back-country thing.
    If you do end up going up there, put the word out, I know several of us out yesterday would love to help!
    Kennedy Meadows area Forest Service told us they had no trail crews this year. I wonder if that is States wide.
    I really don't expect the forest service to do all the work but they are very slow and do not make trail maintenance issues easy of volunteers. It is easier to get a gun permit than a sawyers permit. Darin has a large cross cut hand saw that will go the job.
    We could probably just go out and take it upon ourselves to do it. Nobody is probably gonna harass us for improving trail conditions.
    It is weird because for the decade I have been riding the SART down trees have always been cleared fast. I wonder what changed. The trail knomes seem to have disappeared. Best guess whoever was doing trail work out there either moved on, got old or most likely got tired of never receiving any help.
    I'm surprised Sawyer McG hasn't cleaned it up! Wrong forest, I guess. He's Angeles, not Cleveland. And he's a saint - along with Robin. @Mikie Robin Mcguire
    I'd be willing to cut trees, if someone has a chainsaw. That was my first summer job when I was 16. I still have my limbs and digits. I am guessing whomever does the work would need the blessing of the Forest Service.
