No, not Jz's death march of fun, but something regular riders can enjoy – under 25 miles (under 15 from the HJ parking area) with a few K el gain at most...

Tomorrow or Sunday, whatever works best. I'll default to tomorrow if no takers.

Holy Jim and Upper Holy Jim

UHJ – short and challenging enough to be tough to clean entirely; HJ a classic, fun romp – if overgrown presently. Up HJ and Main Divide to the start of UHJ.

Slow-medium pace up, medium-fast down. PO pro and a head net advised.

7am at HJ parking area. (Can do 6am if desired; it's plenty light.)

Everything would be right for that ride tomorrow for me except the heat. Wonder, does one need to acclimate to heat, like altitude? After my ride yesterday my piss was neon yellow for a couple hours even though I drank a bunch the whole ride, and didn't feel so great today. I may need to wade in to the warm weather rides.... maybe something next week, supposed to cool off some.
Have a great ride Mike, don't overdo with those temps!

Have fun up there... It shouldn't be too bad with a 7:00 start. I'll be running a pretty stout mix of Tailwind on the death march tomorrow... No neon pee for me! :stop:

Acclimation is a given for hot weather...either you get used to it or you don't. Thankfully I can mostly handle it, but anything over 100 degrees and I'm out.

I climbed the back side of GMR at 102 degrees one summer....and set a PR. I won't be doing that again.

    The crowds really are manageable.

I will be out in San Bernardino for a baseball game from 10-noon (or after) tomorrow. Toasty!

The temperatures were very nice at 6am, no direct sun until past the switchbacks, and even then it was cool in the shade. I mollygagged my way up overall, but was able to clean the rocky split section of creekbottom trail. A couple re-dos, dabs, and a fun low-speed ejection into the manzanita on UHJ.

Number of trail users encountered ascending HJ: 0
Number of trail users encountered Ascending MD: one jeep with two people
Number of trail users encountered descending UHJ: 0
Number of trail users encountered descending HJ: 39 (29 hikers, 10 bikers, spread out over 4.75 miles)

Nice... We were wondering how your temps were on that side of the mountain range. We knew it was heating up fast when we hit 80 at 7:10.

Hehe, I was wondering on the way up where the nearest trail users were, and I thought it was probably you guys over the hill.:thumbsup:
