    @mtnbikej

There are quite a few entries for the Pisgah climb... I looked at it wrong at first. I had only IMTB in the sort.

Well I'm tired, and I didn't ride 100 miles today!!!!

Here are some pics from the various IG tags:

    and
    https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/redlandsstradarossa/

All kinds of bikes, mountain, road, cross, touring, singlespeed versions of those. Perfect weather and dirt. One bad accident, at least one crash other than that. Lots of flats. Great food and beer, fantastic conversations everywhere.

Back is killing me (shoulder seems ok), going to chill for a while. Definitely hope you IMTBers that made it had a good time today!!!

Im worked... and we only did the 100K. Props to everyone that came out and bigger props to those that attempted or finished the 100 mile ride. Great times today. I'll post a ride report later.

Only suggestion I have for improvement is some better course marking. I had the map on my Garmin and we still got lost no less than 7 times! ha ha.

The route was awesome though and certainly didn't feel like 50% pavement. I felt like it was way more dirt (which is cool). the singletrack climbs and descents were awesome. That section between the last aid station and the climb to the hospital was some of the best I have ridden on a cross bike.

There were a few crashes around us today, but nothing too major. The biggest was on the pavement around mile 45 or so resulting in a broke collar bone.

I did the 100k too. First of all, major kudos to @mtnbikej and @Faust29 for doing the 100 miler. Impressive. And on SS? Wow. What were your setups (tires and gearing)?

The course really was awesome and super fun on a cross bike. I agree with @DBMX119 it certainly felt like way more than 50% dirt. And some really beautiful views.

I rode the el Mariachi with 700 x 40 WTB Nanos- sort of a poor man's cross bike. The gearing is the same as I've run since switching to the SS 6 months ago... 32 x 22.

If I were to do it again, I would consider a fast rolling 29 x 2.0 tire... possibly.

@jimmymats @DBMX119 Jim and Rick, THANKS for coming out!!! I wish it was more dirt, but yeah, just around 50%. But most of that was on the climbing first half, so the percentage of time spent on the route would be on top of dirt. The downhill second half was where the road miles were, so those went quick. I hope I represented it right, and pushed on this, a MTB site! I wasn't messing around when I said this would be a good ride for mountain-bikers! Y'all will really have the advantage in climbing and skills required to ride dirt!!!!

Course marking is the toughest part for us. It's the think that takes the most human input, and is therefore the one with the highest degree of variability. We do figure that someone crazy enough to sign up for this has the basic skills to pull it off!!! :) Sounds like you made it!!! :)

And yeah, only serious injury was a broken clavicle (I know how that is!) on the 100km course. Super bummed about that, but am AWESOMELY stoked by the amount of concern and help that was offered by participants! We were able to coordinate and get him to the E.R., have family pick up, get bike picked up, etc. Worked out as well as possible for a situation like that.

I tell you, I think this ride attracts AWESOME people! While it is supposed to be tough & demanding, it is supposed to FUN no matter what! I THINK that the people riding it picked up on that and brought that ideal along with them!

THANKS to all that came!!! I hope this can become a regular event on the IMTB calendar and we can get more of you out next year!!!

Great pictures! The alley was a little darker when the masochists started at 6:00. That looks a lot less painful!

I looked it all over, but in the end it was the steel Surly cog that died. New one on order. It would have been fitting, though, because it's at the same mileage (4000) as the first frame that let go. Another 1000 to go to pass the Highball for durability...

The cog is better than a frame, for sure! How many miles on black beauty?

4,000, which is where frame #1 let go.
