Day? How about New Years Minute? :)

Wifers and I are planning on Santiago Peak via Holy Jim at the stroke of midnight. We did it once without bikes and later wondered what we were thinking. So this time we will bring the spokes and make quick work of the descent. It was 29° with a stiff wind last time. This year looks like 32 for the high, no appreciable wind in the forecast.

All NYE nutters are welcome to join us. Bring a thermos of hot drink (and some devilwater if you want to imbibe; I will). We will descend Upper Holy, but if that's not to your liking you can do Main Divide and meet up at the top of Holy Jim. Start time 8pm at HJ parking for a very casual ascent with plenty of breaks.

Unless you are on a road bike, I recommend riding Barrett Stoddard back down, although it is akin to a washboard fire road...if you do not ride it fast, it can be a rough ride.

For those of you who have not ridden Barrett Stoddard, its closest equivalent is SART from Angelus Oaks to Warm Springs Truck Trail.

There is a group shuttling Barrett Stoddard on Saturday Morning at 8:30am. Total mileage is 11.5. 950' of climbing, 2,950' of descending.

I tried to get them to climb it, or at least start the ride from the junction of Baldy Road/Barrett Stoddard TT, but these guys get on saddles only to pursue the end of the ride as soon as possible. There is no denying they rip the trail, but with this approach to riding, I find them to be Paragons of meagerness...and carbon fiber.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll pass though, like you I prefer the pain and suffering before the magical descent .

Just as a tease, took my family there today for a hike. The views are tremendous and the dirt is in prime shape!

As much as I bitch about climbing, I agree with you. Do your DH at the bike park, or on trails that can't be climbed. Earn your turns otherwise.

Where are you coming from Scan? Meeting time and place could depend on that. I like starting from the valley side 'cuz I'm like 10 minutes away. But at the same time I wouldn't mind driving to Chesebro trail head.
