I have been planning a trip to DV and you are invited.
Pretty sure it will be on the last weekend of January, the 29th thru 31st.
I will also be out there for a few days before that if you care to join in on an over night bikpacking trip.
Just so you know, there is no legal, rideable singletrack in DV. All of the rides will be on dirt roads and jeep trails.
We will be car camping with running water and toilets-except for the bike packers overnighter.
Since a few people who have never been to DV before have asked, I am scheduling several classic rides such as Echo Cyn, and the ultimate DV shuttle, Titus Cyn. As always, alternatives are available and dawn and dusk photo ops will be a priority.
I am aware of the rain-related damage to the northern section of the park and most of our activities will be central-south.
Let me know if you are interested, either here or pm. I will post more details in the next few days.

So, now that I'm at a real computer, here are some more details:

Bikepackers, riding into southern DV via Goler wash on Wed., the 27th. Overnight near Arrastre Spring and finishing at Ashford mill via Mengel pass and the Westside road. PM for more details...

Meeting at Texas Spring Campground on Thurs., January 28th, afternoon/evening. Car camping with water/flush toilets. Room for Rvs at the bottom of the hill. 8 person max per site, 2 cars. Close to all Furnace Creek attractions. Remember, DV is a BIG park and lots of driving is required.

Friday, 29th. Echo Cyn from Texas Spring. 25 miles or so of amazing DV riding. Get your fill of washboard and rocks. See the "Eye of the Needle." Continue to the remains of the Inyo mine. Optional spurs to add more miles if wanted. Totally awesome 11 mile downhill run on the way back. Berni is the record holder but there have been rumors of rock doping tainting his otherwise noteworthy effort.

Saturday, the 30th. Titus Cyn Classic. 30 mile shuttle ride, starting near the ghost town of Rhyolite, NV. Challenging ride that gets better and better, with a 13 mile downhil through an ever-closing canyon that will leave you breathless and amazed as you rocket into DV. Check out MTBShadowman's youtube video. It's great!

Sunday, the 31st. Depends who wants to see what and where. Sometimes we hike and take photos. There's always another ride to squeeze in. We'll see.....

Wrong video but its still cool!

I freakin love desert riding but I don't think I'm man enough to handle such an adventure. Now if there was a resort near by I'd be in!!

Sounds great! Just a reminder that you can come and go as you please but I recommend at least an overnighter because DV is 100 miles from nowhere and there is so much to see.

Furnace Creek Ranch is nearby, about $150/night.
Furnace Creek Inn is about double.

Nothing beats dirt bagging it under the stars!

This is still happening. Roads are opening and so are our options for riding.
The schedule may change from listed depending on who wants to go, and what we want to do. Titus Cyn will still be on Saturday.

Been years, but did the Goler wash-Mengal pass trip a few times, in a 4wd. (Gotta side trip to Barker ranch, mr. backdoor man) :) Maybe a support vehicle would be nice? but might ruin the self sustain experience of bike packing

I've been out to the Barker ranch numerous times. Remote as hell. Last hideout of Charles Manson. How they got a school bus up there is still a mystery! I believe its burned down now...guess we'll find out.
A support driver would be a welcome addition as the posting of vehicles in remote locations is always a logistical problem. A drop off of water would be welcome as the NPS will never tell you if a spring is dry or not.

I'm like 80% in for this. I'd rather hike or trail run Telescope peak instead of the bikepacking. Of course this depends on trail conditions at the time. If ax and crampons are required, it won't happen. Not by myself at least.

Sure! Support is basically us bike packers needing someone to drop us off, or pick up our car on the way into DV the next day. Or pick us up at our endpoint.
If we can't get a driver I have other options in mind. We may end up doing the overnighter from Texas Spring out and up Trail Cyn, camp and return-no shuttle needed.

Berni-maybe we can work out a shuttle with you since you will need to pass our drop off point on your way to Telescope. Be aware that the LOWER Wildhorse road is closed due to flood damage but the Trailhead and Charcoal kilns can be reached from HWY 190 and the upper Wildhorse rd.

Please feel free to join us. The riding is not technically difficult but it is long miles (30 or so) on dirt and gravel roads and jeep trails. I have rides planned for newbies and returning DV riders also....

I love it when a plan comes together!

I'm in!!!!! It does not look good to attempt a solo hike to Telescope. I'll hope for better conditions next time.

So, I just have to figure how to get my arss and El Mariachi there.
