Thompson St. Flagstaff, AZ 86001 Office: (928) 527-3600 Long Canyon Trail #122 Wide and nearly level, Long Canyon Trail provides easy access into Sedona's scenic red rock backcountry. For the first mile or so, the route follows an old jeep trail up an ephemeral streambed. Though this drainage is usually dry, it still supports a community of riparian or water-loving vegetation. Along the trail you'll even find a number of cypress trees, Arizona cypress, which are easily recognizable by their shaggy bark and round, gum ball-size seeds. Providing a scenic setting for this unique habitat are a sampling of the picturesque buttes and cliffs for which the Sedona area is so famous. Steamboat Rock, Wilson Mountain, Maroon Mountain, and a number of unnamed cliffs, spires, windows and arches are visible from this trail. The trail ends at a red sandstone cliff where there are a few small Indian ruins and some primitive rock pictographs. Please don't disturb them. I just got back yesterday from three days of riding in Sedona. We rode the Twin Buttes Loop, West Sedona Tour + Chuck Wagon, and Cathedral Rock Big Loop. See these rides on www.MTBProject.com for details. The MTB Project app was invaluable for planning and during ride navigation. I highly recommend checking it out.
OK, I'm in. I usually spend Saint Turkenstein's Day with the in-laws, usually ride Trail 100 in PHX (a great ride BTW) several times. I would love to make a run up to Sedona on Friday... can this happen??? Here's part of Trail 100... a really great ride: Switchback Stitch (time to take a break!) by David, on Flickr
I'm hoping to be biking a couple hours north in the St George area. My dad lives in Mesquite now, and I think we are heading down for the Turkey Day.
Mikie!! Let's plan a IMTB Sedona Thanksgiving Bike Trip. Will the jerseys be ready by then?? What a trip that would be ...
