He was up early. I texted him this morning and he'd already done two laps around the house. We started planning our weekend ride and have it narrowed down to something easy like Horn trail or PCE. He wanted to take his hardtail but I told him no since I have it in my garage and haven't even ridden it myself.:D

    I am!
I had to prove worthy to leave the recovery room, last night. Then I was up at 6:00 am to do 5 minutes of walking and 5 minutes every hour. Then my surgeon has me do 45 minutes of range of motion stretches, and the Physical Therapist will be here at 11:30 to show me who knows what! It’s like a full time job!

The physical therapist is either going to be a hot young chick fresh out of college, or a guy named Bruno who doubles as a bouncer in a biker bar. I'm kinda hoping for Bruno... Get you back into shape quick. None of this touchy feely recovery stuff.

    Lucky you.
One of my hospital stays included a nurse named Vladimir who smelled like he smoked 4 packs of unfiltered Russian cigarettes a day.

Hope your recovery goes well. Do your therapy, but don't do too much.

Bruno would have had you in single speed shape by next Tuesday. Which would have been good considering the slight modification @Voodoo Tom is making to your bike...

yep, but now try and remember just before the meds. You showed the nurse what 6 inches is, now you may come up a little short on one side.

    Ohhhh-Kay!
Just a heads up… Some truths.
Having double knee replacements is probably the most painful thing I’ve gone through.
I thought my Pelvis Presley move with the tree was bad, but it was painful only if I moved, and probably still hits that pain category. But yesterday was… painful. Just laying there, no matter what I did or how I positioned myself.
I was alone for about an hour and I just laid there and cried.

I had to “proof of purchase” the new knees by showing I could walk some in the hospital which I did before I could get discharged.

I thought I had it made on day one and the beginning of day two. Apparently they give you the same pain blocks as they do for child birth. I think it is called an Epidural? Something to do with your spine. But that stays in your system for several hours after surgery. But when that wore off… WOW! Hero to zero in less than 60 seconds.

So it’s Friday morning and now I’m willing to even look at my iPad or texts. The significant key to success is a planned medication chart. A couple days ago, we got off track on the Oxycontin and I think I was O.D.’ing, seriously. CJ was getting me out of bed for the last trip to the bathroom that night and I passed out, hit the floor (naturally on my new knees). I was instantly drenched in sweat and completely disoriented. It was a panic moment.

Starting to do a lot better. Got the pain meds regulated to a half pill every 3 hours. Ice on the bottoms and top of the knees 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off all day. I now have exercises I now have to do to insure range of motion.

    Well, there’s that.

It sure as hell is. And you'll have plenty of time to do it.

Glad to hear you getting thru the pain. I had the spinal and a nerve block in my thigh. The nerve block was AWESOME. I like the way you are already managing your pain pills, it does suck to slowly reduce the happy stuff.

I had a cooling box, basically a small cooler filled with a water/ice mix and a pump that circulated the COLD water thru a pad designed for knee recovery. Got it on Amazon before the surgery and it was absolutely vital during the first week after dropping the pills. It also helped after some of the hellish therapy sessions. I went with the regular size unit and not the compact.

    You got this!

I'll second the cooling box that @OTHRider mentions. A fantastic tool.

@Mikie, I'm proud of you for sucking up the pain and keeping it to yourself. I wasn't as gracious recovering from a leg surgery, yelling every word you can imagine to implorer the staff to crank up the meds. I barely have recollection of it. I was told later there were children within earshot.

Keep hammering the water, boss. One day – nay, one hour – at a time is the path to success. Power on. :)
