World Cup DH 2021

After the first 2 races were cancelled.....we are finally getting a race this weekend in Leogang.

Looks like it's gonna be a tale of 2 trails.....super fast in the wide open areas, and a sloppy mudfest in the trees.

 

Nothing good ever happens at Leogang...

Unless you break a chain.

I wonder how many actually get injured in those hard falls. It seems any one of those falls would result in busted wrists, dislocated shoulders, rib damage, concussion or other significant damage if it were one of us!

 

Tahnee said she changed tires after every practice run, but she didn't say if she actually found one that worked in the mud...

"Hey everyone, just a quick update on what happened to me today.

Everything was coming together nicely, I was really happy with the track and was enjoying riding the steep mud sections. Then the drama came.

I went out of the track on a fast section about 30 seconds into the track. I was trying find some more speed somewhere else than in the wood and simply rode into a pole. I had probably done this a thousand times in the last 16 years that I have been racing World Cups. Normally I just bounce off and keep going.

This time it was a bit different. The pole came back and whipped straight between my legs. It hit me with an unbelievable amount of pain. I still managed to ride my bike quite well down to the bottom of the track, but when I got to the pit the pain got really bad. We had a check down my trousers and there was lots of blood and some spare parts were hanging out that should have been tucked away safely. I needed to get to a hospital urgently.

The doctors performed emergency surgery to save them and get them back in place and to save the chance to have children… The surgery was a success and the boys are back where they should be.

I will need to wait and see what this experience has actually done to me emotionally as I was very close to losing them… This is the first time I have needed surgery without actually crashing on my bike and it has been a scary experience.

I tried watching the replay just now on Redbull TV. It says "Replay Available" and gives the tempting illusion that you can view it, but not so.

If you know the results, please don't post about it. I would like to view the replay sometime today.

 

Damn pink bike social media spoiled it for me..

 

It works......just watched both races.

You won't be disappointed.

 

I was able to watch up until the first run... Then it wouldn't load any further.

 

It worked fine for me. I saw the entire men's race replay.

 

Same here. Oddly enough I was able to watch the XC short track. And the women's DH played fine as well.

 

I had to switch from Chrome to Safari, but I saw it all. There are only two riders I really want to win, but this was pretty spectacular and really well deserved! Stoked for the winner, and for those who came back from horrible injuries to be at the top of their game too!

 

Skipping through some of the ladies, and it seems they aren't all complete replays. They cut out the "roadie" section with the jumps.

 

I wonder if she had the time to measure them and send the measurements to @DangerDirtyD

 

Before or after she shaved the tread and added siping to the remaining knobs?

 

As ridden, of course. We wouldn't want to deprive you of the most valuable intel.
I can't decide if your obsession is because of the discrepancy between claimed width and actual width, or because you want the coolest looking (widest?) tires your bike can handle.

 

As long as you keep bringing it up, you have time to figure it out.

Not one of the better races......

All I have to say is watch out for the horrendous get off on one of the rubber matted jumps.

 

That was just a messy nasty race.

Looked like an xco race there were so many off the bike.

 

Oooof - that was - entertaining? And that swan dive over the bars was spectacular. Glad to see him get up and ride, but I'm guessing a little concussed.

Eliot Jackson was a GREAT counterpart to Rob Warner though. Far better than Claudio! Eliot has so much energy and just loves the racing!

 

I'd give spoilers on the XC race, but the riders, bikes and kits are all covered in mud. Can't see any labels and they all look the same...

 

It's been a while, but there was a World Cup DH in Slovenia today. The GOAT on the podium! I hope he wins one outright this year! He turns 40 in November. Minnaar won his first World Cup DH the same year today's winner was born (2001).

Here are the results. Spoiler alert - a Frenchman won!

Luca Shaw was top US finisher. Charlie Harrison was solid. Not sure what became of Dakotah Norton. A-a-ron was injured earlier this year and didn't race this weekend. Neko Mulally finished DFL.

 

Lots of injuries this round.

Track looked brutal.

There are some guys that can get lucky and turn a fast lap amongst the slower qualifiers.....but it just shows the Top 10 are always Top 10 for a reason.....those f'ers are fast.

Looked like today slower was faster.
