Given the current situation in LA county, these fully restored engines could very well be called into duty to fight fires and save lives. So yeah, they could be important.

    Hmmmmm.....
I made an isolated copy (see below). Then I used some advanced special NGC BSpectrometer analysis software to see which part was mounted closer to the failing bell and came up with this extremely accurate print below. Research shows a significant distance variance between said Sram and said Shimano indicating that the Sram part was significantly closer than the Shimano part. Only contact and NOT proximity counts. Science does not lie...:whistling:

I'm so sorry for your loss...:(

Thank you for this detailed scientific analysis. However, please note the part that says "Shimano" clearly in that photo was quite possibly contacting the now-deceased bell's body. Shudder...

I believe that the deceased bell was manufactured by a company that is a subsidiary of the Shimano Corporation. Yep, that explains right there. Case closed. :D

Scientists. Such as myself can not merely "suggest" [quite possibly contacting] & [believe] no more than we can deny or confirm we all came from primordial soup!
Since we do not have clear artifacts to define fact that supports your hypothesis, one must use the facts at hand, and one MUST conclude in my official diagnosis, my scientific capacity, and professional terminology, "The Sram part eff'ed it up." :coffee:

I believe that this case calls for a metalurgy test. My sources claim that the metals/alloys used in the failed bell are closer to those used by Shimano than by Sram.

@SnakeCharmer, Ummm... That's spelled Metallurgy! Awesome! did you really do a metallurgy test? Did you use an extractive method? The magnetic separation, froth flotation, or leaching method? :geek:
    Can I see your results?

I no longer make an effort to spell correctly. I’m smart enough to to know that everyone here understands what I type, regardless of the way it is presented. That and Im lazy. I have spell correct turned on and if it’s not caught and corrected by my device, so be it. My legal team has not yet completed their metallurgy testing. The case is ongoing, therefore we cannot share any specific information at this time. :D

Hey now, watch yourself. If it wasn't for SRAM, you'd probably still be on 3x9 or at the best 2x8. SRAM is pushing all the innovation. Shimano is just following along.

    Hey Meestah!
    Totally agree!
But as mentioned more than likely in several other threads, Shimano be smart! It used to be that Shimano was breaking out all the latest technology. But they got smart.
With the market constantly changing, and understanding the devastation of proprietary focused parts that actually come back to bite you.
    Why innovate any longer?

Look how many things have changed, just over the last couple of years!
Why not let all the more agile small companies trying to build their names with cool tech go kick the bushes and spend all their R&D money. Let them bird dog the next big thing.

Shimano just waits for the dust to settle on a stable concept then takes the concept and just engineers just past patent restrictions and makes it that much better annnnnd... BAM!
People are buying from a larger manufacturer who has one of the best world distribution systems and can sell for less. Dollar for dollar, I believe that Shimano makes better products for a better price. At least my bank account has shared that with me.

...and Shimano always builds in the product safety index that gives me the confidence in their products.

    Just sayin'
