On a hardtail... And I can't even get @DangerDirtyD to come up and ride the front range on his hardtail. :p

@mtnbikej shared this one with me yesterday, and I've watched it 10 times since. @mtbMike mentioned it on the forum not too long ago, and has been there.

I made the mistake of throwing it up on the big screen where the wife could see it. This greatly reduced my chances of ever seeing this trail in person. :Roflmao

27.5 x 3.0 on the rear, 29 x 3.0 on the front, 130mm fork... It starts to get chunky around the 1:45 mark.

:D Only once!! I was out there with @pdqmach26 and another Team AARP member. We walked 3 separate feature/sections more due to the exposure vs the feature itself. Once you clear that move at the 2:30 mark, it was actually pretty fun. That being said, I won’t bother making a return trip.

For those that have done Portal, the first 1/4 mile of this trail is wayyyyy sketchier. Props to those that ride this as intended.

@Faust29 I rode my hardtail down the gnar of Bonelli the other night, and I pinch flatted my rear tire. That bike is strictly for recreation and smooth, nothing trails. Indeed I have upgraded the crap out of it from the parts bin, but still it has mechanical disk brakes with 160mm rotors, tubed tires (I gotta remove that 2.1 small block eight from the back), and a head angle +-70* without a dropper post. I would need a 27.2mm dropper with external routing, and the best I could find is 110mm travel, which is nowhere near enough travel to avoid crushing my delicates.

@mtbMike , are you building a house near Williamson, AZ?

70 degree head angle, 100 mm fork, no dropper, 160 mm rotors, rear tire is a 2.0 Cross King... :whistling: Of course, everything in the picture is broken except the rear wheel, saddle and bell... :Roflmao The frame still hangs in the Path, but at least it was faster than @Mikie 's Yeti. :Roflmao

Anyone need a 135 rear wheel? Single speed hub?

No idea to be honest....Williamson Valley is a big place. I know there are at least 10-12 retired San Diego police officers out here. What is your bosses name?

3” tires with a 130 fork? That’s more squish than some FS whips have. :geek:

Plus tires would definitely take some teeth out of a trail like that. Props for a worthy effort nonetheless.

Her name is Lynn. She’s a tall lady in her mid 60s with curly blonde hair. She’s on the Architectural Committee of whatever HOA there is over there, and she’s very pragmatic. Moved from CA 6 months ago. She says the neighborhood is comprised of a bunch of conservative CA immigrants, and she loves it there. I lived in Prescott area for about a year and told her to go to the Iron Springs Cafe, but she said they closed for good recently.

I watched the vid. i knew he had to edit and post it up, yet i was still unclear if he was going to live.
I know that a lot of time video's tame down the ride and sometimes they make them look even more dangerous than they are . I felt the danger more than the safety, yet i would probably ride that with no shame in walking what was out of my pay scale.

I said at the time that I was happy being faster on the first run with the Highball than you were on 3 or 4 runs of your Yeti. :D It takes some guys longer… You got me on the 5th try.

Yes… When we were knocking back beers and grub at the brewery, I noticed that my Strava was faster than Mikie, because he couldn’t upload his run from that day with his dumb phone. After the crying, he uploaded and shaved off something like 15 minutes…

But hey… A win is a win. 2015 Highball with no dropper and XC tires was faster than his first few runs on the enduro Yeti super bike. :Roflmao And we were choking on smoke the whole time with zero visibility… :inlove:

@Mikie probably started the plunge at the back of the pack his first several times on Strava, having to pass HoOLigAnS one or two or five at a time and sometimes get stuck behind them for miles before they’d either pull or fall over for him to shave a few more seconds from his PR.

All irrelevant to the Strava timer… :Roflmao

Just like I know that you’re faster than me. But… And this is a huge but. I have one good run after working at it numerous times, and it’s Strava immortalized! Then I get to talk :poop: about you squishy guys. :p

43 seconds on Middle Merrill… I’ve been studying video. :whistling:

I was gonna reference a similar example, but I won't say where because I don't want @Sidewalk to take it away from me. Hint: his run is on video somewhere on this forum.
43 seconds is just a blip! But ya gotta do it at night so there's no trail traffic.

I would never claim to be the fastest on anything by Strava times are a bunch of hooey and can't be trusted. On a few rides out here, I have been riding with people and at no point in the ride were they in front of me and on multiple DH sections, I even waited 30+ seconds for them yet they end up with faster times on multiple segments.

Many, MANY people show it as their biggest climb. Easy to find if you search the Cannell Plunge Segment. I think it's a feature, not a bug. :p:rolleyes:

It appears all Strava looks at is the elevation difference between high and low points. Not whether the direction was up or down.

I rarely chase Strava times anymore. Has to be pretty damn unique anymore. Last time I did it was a 11 mile segment I ran on the SOT last year, not even a bike ride.

I'm with you on that Brothah!
Segments in my opinion are somewhat a joke. I prefer the whole run and not a 500 foot section with a silly name. I can understand a segment like the last DH on Golden Eagle, or the full run of McGill, but all these little itty bitty (yes, I used the word itty bitty) segments are just plain silly.

Plus... I'm old and past that stage of my life. If I pull off a PR... Whoo Hoo! Otherwise... pass. ;)
