Looks like some trails are going to be directional, some we are going to lose as cyclists.

it’s official, the COVID craze has f’d everything up.

Funny...it’s a very local paper with a solidly NIMBY editorial stance, and very pro-horsey. You’ll notice that they got the news from the Orange Park Acres HOA...

it just reads like a high school paper.

they have good coupons for the Pacific Ranch Market, and they stay on top of stuff like this. So I crack it open when it arrives.

im pretty sure Peralta was already signed as out of bounds for bikes, so there’s not much here beyond codifying the unwritten rules. Having a sign at the bottom of old Chutes that sends hikers up the climber’s route is probably overdue.

still a bummer that we need to deal with this.

I know not popular and probably completely different but I thought when some of the trails in Bommer Canyon we're 1 way during Covid.. it was betterer

    OTOH Oaks is OOC...

I am all for one way trails. Limestone Canyon did one way trails during Covid (before it burned down) and it was great.

Just maybe having certain trails single direction will discourage the yahooz that insist on riding Coachwhip downhill, climbing Yucca or Cactus on their 45 lb ebikes to pick another location to ride altogether.
    We lose Peralta -
Snowflakes hate rules so maybe they will also choose another park too!

I’ve got zero issues with folks riding down Coachwhip. But if you’re rad enough to skid the berms on Coachwhip, you’re rad enough to put on the big boy underwear and ride Cactus.

Yeah, they ride ebikes because they don't know how to read. The signs are pretty obvious but apparantly beyond the ebikers comprehension. So to expect ebikes to also follow one way and non permitted bike trails is a HUGE Longshot.

And I have no problem with them except in the OC parks setting. the 30 mph uphill on hiking/biking trails is wrong on may levels.
Also, a motorcycle license would be an appropriate requirement for purchase if it can exceed 15mph and motorized.

Not sure if you are adding to it or missing my point. E-bikes are non-permitted activity.

We all impact habitat, but bikes without motors are permitted. Soooo.... what is the non-permitted activity they are referring to? :whistling:

But apparently the impetus is off-menu trail making....thus the "habitat impact."

An e-bike on a sanctioned trail is annoying, but doesn't have any impact on the habitat. Same as in any forest closure order - if a bicycle or hiker is on a trail, it has zero - yes, ZERO - impact on the habitat being regrown or rehabbed, but the activity is often forbidden regardless of how much sense it makes.

So if one is inclined to extend trails in a county park beyond that which originally existed, or never existed, then one may reasonably assume that the county government will get its panties in a wad because, well, it's the county government and they didn't approve it. No matter whether it makes sense or not.

I work for a government. I know how they "think."

Ahhh - true. That would be another type of non-permitted activity. Unauthorized trail building and riding. Can I blame e-bikers for that too? :sneaky:

My guess re:unpermitted activity is the YouTube meetups. Commercial filming in OC Parks is a $450/day permit. And commercially organized group rides are yet another permit. Same for flying a drone. I’m guessing that none of the posted videos did any of that.

Rode Oaks yesterday... heat got to me and I was slower than normal... as I was climbing Coachwhip I looked over to Yucca and saw a "worker" riding his motorcycle down the trail and then turns around to ride up again. I guess that's how they do trail maintenance. not e-motorcycle but full on gas motorcycle like a KLR650 in his dayglo green vest no less. our tax dollars hard at work right there. :speechless:
