Forum Non-Members will Experience a Reduction in Site Visibility

It doesn't mean that Lurkers (Edit: Non Members) will lose their eye sight!
It DOES mean that they are going to lose some Site visibility privileges.

There is no point in offering a free website and have a free membership if there is no benefit to membership.
Call it Owner/Administrator/Moderator discretion.

I contacted myself and asked what I thought and I decided to let myself know it was the right thing to do after many years of debate.

If the only things I ask of folks are to participate, and utilize shopping opportunities on the site like Amazon and Adsense that cost them not a dime more to help support the site, I think it's fair that Members who want full access at least sign up membership and potentially chip in... just don't think that is asking too mucho.

So Non Members beware! You are losing some of the privileges that membership has. Join the resitance and become a Hooligan!

how is Lurker defined? i identify as a lurker cuz i know nothing so i post rarely.

imtbtrails Lurker by definition is someone who is not signed up as a member of imtbtrails. Since you can post here you have signed up. You are a member of the Hooligan Nation.

People that simply stop in to view imtbtrails that are NOT signed up as members are Lurkers. Nothing wrong with it, it only means they can not post on the site.
I want to reward those that sign up with more content.

Oh... and you should go back and join the imtbtrails STRAVA Club. You are a member of imtbtrails and that is the only requirement Paul!

 

Also considering a Forum that is not visible to the Public at all...
It's stuff we don't want to just blatantly blab to the world but would be available to Members so no big secrets could be contained there. We could also have a Hooligan Secret Society that would have secret handshake like Fred Flintstones Water Buffalo Club. But that also sounds kinda creepy...

 

Lurkers should be automatically directed to the Politics thread. Then when they sign up, the doors open to the rest of the site.

I always dislike forum owner/moderator moves like this. It never gets the lurkers to post, so what is the point?

I never post on STR, but there is still a Sh!t ton of good info there that I look up from time to time.

It's all good, I will support this site forever.

I usually have my eyes closed on the downhills because i'm gasping for air after a climb. its usually a 50/50 proposition if I make it down in one piece

 

So what about the lurking Ebike contingent who have remained in the shadows (by request so as not to continually flame the fires). Shall we just move on? I feel that there are those who have contributed "something" useful to the mix. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe it's time. I am putting the over/under on this at 80%.

Its easy, sign up, post once year hopefully regularly, and good to go! We shall not judge.
Probably best not to mention ebikes though. I saw a group of guys 30 years old or so on them, and thought...why? Im almost 60 and don't ride one. To Each their own, enjoy the ride either way!!!

I typically don't login, cuz I clear cookies like crazy, but peruse recent posts 3-5 times a week & haven't much interest to comment, which is my web playa style across all social based sites. If a registered & authenticated session avoids the lurker role that is fine by me as a consumer of a free service, especially one of interest as this wayward home of ragtag, no gooders. Be helpful to inform one of the limitation at the enforcement point (initial page, forum entry, post, whatever) to encourage registration & remind the lazy login lurkers.

 

Maybe “Lurker” is not the right term. I just want people to sign up.
Post or don’t post, on the site as a member is all I’m seeking.

 

I move that we , from this point forth, replace "lurkers" as used in the context implied in the thread above, formally to "lookie loos."
