That will pass. That's just a side effect of your recent hospital stay.

 

I need to shrink my stomach. It would cost me a fortune to satiate via food delivery services. I eat way too much, especially with the munchies. As it is, my grocery rounds include Stater Bros, Vons, Sprouts, and Trader Joes just to ensure the lowest price for any given item. Drop off supplies from one, head to another. At least the mileage adds up on the commuter bike, and the cheapie cycling computer on the handlebar indicates I can reach 10 miles in a day, although some of that includes walking around in each store.

 

Everybody should eat a little better. And I want to use this episode as a learning experience.
Not like my sister.
She started smoking in her teens. She has been obese and diabetic as well. She had a heart attack and quintuple bypass about 10 years ago and several strokes since. Still smokes.
She didn't learn from the experience.

 

I'm not nearly as strict as that statement might have implied, but I definitely do strive for it. We are very much on the Butcher Box train as well. Come to think if it, it might have been your endorsement a while back that finally pushed me over the tipping point to try it. Love love love me some Butcher Box.

 

I'd be willing to bet the cost differences would be minimal. However, the better quality of life you gain should be more than enough to make change. Pay now for good healthy food, OR pay later in doctor bills and prescriptions.

Cut out Staters, they have the absolute worst selection of organic foods. Vons is by far the best stocked with organic/clean selections. Sprouts and Traders are overpriced. Do it correctly and you can get home delivery for almost less. Thrive Market is a great source for everyday household items that are human and enviro friendly. We use them for all of our household items.

Once you start riding again try not to crush!
The scrapes will scare the crap out of the guys riding with you.
I got few pictures of world class bruisers (Kokopelli 2019) and massive bleeding while on blood thinners.

 

I remember the bruises well when I was on blood thinners. I swear there was a time when you could hit me with a sledgehammer, and I wouldn't bruise. A few months into being on blood thinners, I fell and I swear the bruising lasted several months. For whatever reason, I didn't bleed any more than normal when I got a cut or a scrape.

 

Okay.... you got me there.

 

Blood thinners for 23 years and counting. 5mg Coumadin per day from 1997 until 2019 - now Xarelto. Probably a little dangerous, but I don't bleed all over the place when cut. Fingers crossed. Subdural hematoma might be fun to say, but not fun to experience.

 

Thankfully I was only on thinners for the first 6 months after my embolism. I've been on the daily 81mg aspirin regimen since then. I'm back to no bruising and no bleeding.

 

Just wondering how your weekend went Ross. We are still thinking about you. Hang in there!

 

Hey @rossage. Hope you are recovering well. I thought about you a lot while riding yesterday. Wondering about that balance between pushing myself in the heat and taking care of the ticker. It's all about balance I guess. Every ride is an opportunity to feel grateful, every pedal stroke a gift.

The @rossage episode has me thinking along the same lines.
I went for a ride on Saturday and thought about having a heart rate monitor most all of the ride. I'm not exactly sure how that would help but heart health is at the front of my mind now...

Same here, haven't worn my chest strap since we did Koko in 2016. Went to grab it before our ride and couldn't find it. Thinking about getting an apple watch and just forcing myself to get used to wearing it. Hope you are doing well Ross.
