How to get a new bike computer...

Apparently the solution is to follow me on the trails because I have now lost two just this year! I didn't even wipe out! WTF?

 

All of my devices are connected to the bars by a lanyard. I learned after losing a GoPro in Oregon... Which my wife still brings up every now and then.

 

Sounds like the mount is worn out. They get loose after some miles.

 

Oh trust me, it was 100% my fault. I am ranting just because I know how stupid I am. The bands holding the mount in place were a little loose... not too bad, but definitely not as snug as they should be. I thought "I'll fix it when I get back - I'm only going to be on a pump track". Doh!

 

To be stupid is to be human. We all are at times.

I strongly suggest a solid mount that attaches with a bolt.

 

I keep mine in my hydro pack

 

When I was riding the AZTR I noticed my phone case slipping off my chest strap a couple times when I took the pack off. Thought to myself I should tie that on, it would suck if it slipped off and I didn't notice it. Kept forgetting to tie it on. I was pretty diligent about checking for it each time I put the pack back on. The one time I didn't check...it wasn't there. Despite riding back right away to where I stopped last I never saw the phone again. My phone case is now tied to my pack with para cord.

I have a couple friends who leave their garmin on the handlebar mount while driving to a ride or back with the bike on a bike rack. Makes me cringe.....

 

I dropped my phone/case at Cannell, went back up a mile or so searching and found it half buried where people had ridden over it. Then got the reward of riding out alone.

Couple of decades ago I was hiking a steep loose drop into a canyon with a friend and he found my brother's knife that had been dropped on a previous descent.

Another canyon I dropped a rope in a pothole which sank into oblivion in water at least 10 feet deep and zero visibility. Next year I found it half sticking out of an eroded sand bank a few hundred feet downcanyon still half coiled up.

Sometimes you find stuff again. But I'm with Steve and Evan on the lanyard attached to stuff you don't want to drop.

 

Data is stupid. Ride blind.

 

I challenge you to take it a step further and ride blind-folded.

i should get a lanyard for my gps... i lost my last garmin when i went otb in moab. still kicking myself for not checking my bike before i rode on...

i do travel with it attached to my bike on the bike rack. never come loose yet

 

I mostly just use my watch now.

I know you have a dremel. Scratch your phone # into the next one. The chances that a moral trail user fings it is high, and it will be returned.

Find it halfway up Monroe. Messaged users who data synceed up .. c Facebook groups.... But no luck
