Sundance is out. Vision Quest lives April 2021, but with a Sundance route. It's hard to keep up.

    I'll be there...

Sundance Event to be postponed and renamed the 2021 Pow Wow

Due to the re-emergence of the Covid virus, and our inability to know if restrictions will be lifted by the rescheduled date of October 17th, we will be postponing the Sundance Event to Saturday, April 10th. The event will not be called the Sundance but the 2021 Warrior’s Society Pow Wow. That will gives us time for the virus to hopefully run its course or a vaccine to be developed.

Those currently entered in the Pro/Intermediate class will be in the Counting Coup and those who were to participate test Vision Quest Course will be moved to the official Vision Quest Course for the Pow Wow. Those currently entered in the Pro Class will have the opportunity to be moved to the Vision Quest if they request it. We’ll still have the short course and will come up for a name for it.

Those finishing the Counting Coup course will received coup feathers and those who finish the Vision Quest will receive beaded Coup feathers.

We will keep registration closed until we see a true “all clear” with the virus. I’ll let everyone know when registration opens.

    Event info:

The Counting Coup course will start up Black Star, across the Main Divide then down the Silverado Motorway (trail), up Maples Springs Road to 4 corners then North across the Main Divide and back down Black Star to the finish. It will be 48 miles with 9100’ of ascent.

Cost for those not currently entered in the Sundance event: $90.

The Vision Quest Course will be the same but we will add a loop up to Santiago Peak, which will make the course around 58 miles with 9,800 feet of elevation gain.

Cost for those not currently entered in the Sundance event: $110.

We will have two cutoff times for the Counting Coup and three for the Vision Quest (start time 6:00 a.m.):

    1. 9:30 a.m. - at the Aid Station at the bottom of the Silverado Trail and Maple Spring Road

    2. 11:30 a.m. - at the Aid Station at the intersection of Maples Springs Road and the South Main Divide Road.

    3. Vision Quest only: cut-off at 1:30 p.m. at Maple Springs Road and the Main Divide (4 corners) when returning from the peak and rejoining the Counting Coup course.

Those not making the cutoff times will ride down Maples Springs Road/Silverado Canyon Road back to the Staging Area off of Black Star Canyon Road. The staging area will remain at the Black Star Staging Area off Black Star Canyon Road.

LOL when I used to do lots of events I learned 1 thing....never trust the course description on any new course!!!

Hell in the old days before everything was GPS'd it seemed to be a point of pride to surprise the riders!

@Faust29 is there a way to get on their notifications. I would like to do it as well but haven't race any Sundance events in around 12 years.

Damn, it's probably been 15+ years since I've seen a WS jersey or a feather attached to a camelbak. I still see rads sticker and STR jerseys from time to time though.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen a Sho-Air jersey in years either. No complaints there.

In a post Covid world I might try to find motivation to do it again... The training/cancellation cycles killed my motivation this year.

Right now I'm operating under the assumption that the only "event" in my calendar is the WW50.

Looks like the date will be April 16, 2022...

I am registered, but I honestly can't remember which route I signed up for. Being 3 years ago, it was most likely the big boy version. Will I drive down and do it? Doubtful with the current course.

the trail conditions are going to be horrendous. Main Divide is so loose and gravelly. Maple Springs is loose and silty….and add in the vehicle traffic. No thanks.

How has Vision Quest already sold out? The registration is not even open yet. I guess must be previously registered folks. Counting Coup still looks like it has availability.

Interesting looking through results for both Vision Quest and Counting Coop, I don't show that I did either one. I want to say it was around 2007 that I did Vision Quest and the next year I did Counting Coup. I must have been really slow if I didn't make the results.

They won't close the gates for the event?!? That's a deal breaker right there... And then with 2 of the 3 trails closed... Yuck.

I drove up a few years ago (the big mud year) and saw very few vehicles.
A few associated with the event and one or two others.
Maybe that was lucky having few vehicles that day. Also, the event starts early, maybe before the yahoos wake up.

Aside from Motorway, all the fun trails are still closed making VQ/CC right now just ......... I really want to support and see more local events but without having the other side of the mountain open, I don't see much fun in paying for something like this.
