You may have already looked around, and know more than me, but the Ibis FB group I'm in makes it sound like new Ripmo orders are looking at Augustish deliveries. Someone even said within the last couple days that it could be as late as December. High demand bikes and China supply chain issues and all. Heard V3 Followings also fall into that boat. Conversely, I think GG times are about 4 weeks right now. That said, if I had no bike, was buying without demoing, and all things were equal with delivery windows, I'd have trouble not pulling the trigger on a Ripmo

I got this done specifically for the backpack straps. I went without the surgery on my right clavicle in 2006, and working around it is a major preoccupation when backpacking. I’ve given up on camelbacks and passenger side shoulder belts as well.

most of the stuff I do at work is Ti and carbon, so we amuse ourselves trying to decide what thread pitch is appropriate for bone. And my wife is a civil engineer, she’s joked about finding the right part in the Simpson Strong-tie catalog.

So sorry to hear about the clavicle...healiest of vibes to you!

My unsolicited 2 cents re bikes: I have a 2018 Alu GG Smash and a 2017 Kona Process (27.5). Smash is better and more fun in everything for me...fun and not too much bike on SART but not under biked on double blacks in Whistler. (Valley trails...didn’t take in the park). Modular nature of the Revved frames is a bonus, too.

Heard great things re Ripmo as well, so you can’t really go wrong.

Yeah, when I demoed the Ripmo 1 i thought it would be perfect if it were only a little longer. So I already know I’d love the Ripmo 2. I feel pretty confident about the Yeti as well but the Ibis XT build kit is right at my cost-performance sweet spot.

the demo road trip would be a good way to make vacation plans in a normal year. As much as I’d love to buy a US sourced bike, I need saddle time before buying a GG.

Just had to look this dentist thing up, this thing is real. There must be more wrong with me than meets the eye, I honestly don’t really look at another riders bike because I don’t care , let alone judge them for what they ride. Sorry tick for the derail, won’t happen again. :)

For one-bike recreation, I'm with @Sassyquatch in defaulting to more bike over less. The leggier bikes all pedal great and you can set em up light or not.

I think the nature of the sport just lends itself to class consciousness. The most athletically capable segment of the sport is the stereotypical college age shop rat eating ramen to afford an aluminum framed GX bike. Their customers are middle aged middle managers buying $10,000 trophy bikes that will either sit unused or be ridden to 30% of their capability.

this is IMTBT. Derailment is mandatory.

Somebody is the Ibis group posted today that it was be into 2021 for the V2 Ripmo's now. However, if you're in that group, you know that certain dealers seem to be able to make things happen.

I have pored over and agonized over bikes since a fateful day last October when I made an irrational purchase on a whim. I would say the Ripmo is probably the most universally loved as a do-everything bike, followed very closely by the (new) Hightower. What I have also noticed is NOBODY is giving love to 27.5s anymore. Bronson, Nomad, Mach 5.5, Mach 6, Yeti 140, 165, etc etc - testers love them and rave about them, but then say "wish it came as a 29er." As much as I love my Megatower, I never went out the following day and rode my Tracer to compare. I am still not convinced that a 29er is a better wheel size for me, even though some 90% of riders and industry people seem to be saying 29ers are better for everyone but short people.

But yeah, get a Ripmo V2 if you can get your hands on one. Why not? If you do go Yeti 130 - get the lunch ride. Nothing to lose there.

I did some more reading this afternoon on the bike shortage. Dang. Gonna make a few calls, see what would be available in 6 weeks. If the pickings are slim, I still need to replace my busted roadie, and I’m less picky about that ride. Could scratch the new bike itch that way.

I’m really not sick of the Process. Kinda bored, kinda wanting a crisper pedaler, but geo-wise I could drop in an Angleset and have a totally up to date machine—the 2014 Process would match the new tallboy within a few tenths in every dimension. It’s just not the midlife crisis trophy bike.

been thinking about the crash. I think I just took the corner a little too casually, and didn’t properly weight the front tire into the corner. Maybe I was expecting more grip than I should have. The rut I got launched by is only 3” outside the groove that’s been worn in to that spot on Cactus Canyon. I think I lost traction and understeered just that much. Whatever i was thinking about at the time, it wasn’t the trail.

it’s sobering to think about how a slightly different landing would have gone.

Broke clavicle and a rib at Chino Hills coming down Telegraph. Swatting or a bee or horsefly that got trapped under my sunglasses. Instant otb at 15 mph on the easiest trail imaginable. Happened just past Sycamore trail, I was parked at Rimcrest trailhead. So I walked out, pushing bike, up Little Cyn back to South Ridge 2.5-3 miles back to Rimcrest trailhead and the vehicle..Thankfully another rider, Omar happened along and walked with me and carried my fully laden camelback the last mile. Called wife take me to St Jude Fullerton, brother in law drove truck and bike safely home. ER gave a cat scan with contrast dye to make sure no bleeding in lungs, an sent me on my way. Will try to get in to the fracture specialist asap, can’t sleep, ER gave small batch of Percocet which barely takes the edge off. Sheesh what a day, first crash in 6 years and was on a smooth Jeep road...

Dang it. Hope you have a comfy chair at home to sleep in.

The ERs are not the Dr Feelgood opioid dispensaries they were 15 years ago, now they only hand out just enough schedule 3 narcotics to stop the screaming. I’m good with that, but it sure is different when you actually experience it.

Our experience was a lot different than that... Every time I turned around, they were trying to give my wife morphine. She would decline it with one nurse, and the next would come in and, literally, try to trick her into agreeing.

I started to think morphine was candy.

Thanks, Me too, you had much more damage than me, didn’t you go into surgery next day? I see ortho 8 am tomorrow. Pretty high pain the day after, mine is a “grossly displaced mid clavicle fracture” with a minimally displaced 2nd rib fracture. And I have the indignity of doing this on equivalent of the bunny hill.
