So, with the batch of busted collarbones lately, it got me thinking.

it is easily the most common broken bone when it comes to riding. Something like only 7 psi of pressure to break it.

So this is just a survey to see who is a member of the bike riding clavicle club.

if you broke it doing something else(skateboarding/football/wrestling, tripped over your shoelaces, roughhousing, etc.) I don’t really care...I don't wanna hear about it......I have done mine both off and on the bike. 3x......2x on the bike, 1x off the bike.

    whatcha got?

Mine is non-union, so every day I ride is with a broken collarbone. My days of brachiating are over.

My 4'9"inch Female Japanese primary doctor had me wincing in pain laughing. So were looking at the x-ray for my broken collar bone. She takes her pointer, because she's so short and points at the ((preexisting)) lump in the bone (not the fresh break) and in perfectly understandable but broken English says "Ohh you break before". I said no, because as far as I knew I hadn't. Then asked her if she had the right X-ray. BIG mistake. That's like lying to judge Judy. She sternly points to the name and says SEE James Ditson, then points at the old lump and says "SEE you break before motorcycle man". So now I'm trying not to laugh and she starts lifting my arm while I'm trying to man up and I swear she was grinning. I miss her.

I would have thought breaking it and not knowing it was impossible, but I may be in this club as well. At a physical a couple years ago my primary asked me when I broke my collar bone. I said I hadn't, to which he was somewhat incredulous, but he dropped it. Fast forward to a couple months ago and my physical therapist, while working on my neck for the first time, asked me the same thing. I said that I hadn't, but she replied that I unequivocally have. There IS a sharp, and completely asymmetrical lump right before it meets the acromion, but I have no recollection of any impact that resulted in any lasting pain indicative of a break. So, I dunno.

Sorry, you have to start a new club for that...because (per the “green clause”), he does not care. :(

I’m going to start one. It’s for people who don’t want to be in a club.

Riding a bike is riding a bike....if you were riding when you got hit then I'm good with it. If you were standing at the bus stop, then no, it doesn't count.

My last good commuter crash resulted in a concussion and another banged up shoulder. Urgent care doc took x-rays and no breaks and diagnosed a torn rotator cuff. So I was sore as hell but kept riding cause I’m stubborn. A few weeks later I’m at the orthopedist for a consultation and he checks my range of motion and says hmm let’s take new x-rays. A few minutes later he comes in and says your rotator cuff is fine but you broke the tip of your collarbone clean off. Said he would’ve recommended surgery but that it was basically healed and just keep doing whatever I was doing to take care of it...:Roflmao

I want to know about cycling related clavicle breakage.....breaking it playing football in high school doesn't fit the bill. Breaking it when you roller skating at age 6 isn't the statistic I'm looking for.

Dropping Can't See Bottom and going OTB....that's the statistic I want to hear about.

I broke my left CB when I was a kid....not cycling related. I broke it again in 2003. 6 months later I crashed at the Oaks, got the same discomfort/pressure I had when I broke it. Took a few days off the bike. Heard that the more times you break it, the less it hurts each time. Decided to go out for a road ride. Slipped a gear and yanked on that shoulder pretty hard. Pressure relieved, discomfort went away. However I developed a huge lump on my collarbone that wasn't there after break number 2.

When I got my X-rays in 2011 for my fractured humerus, you could see the giant ball of calcium that developed and why there is a lump there.
