Tailwind...

I lurv the Green Tea. In fact, I ordered some of that exact combo (green tea/naked) today. The cola on the other hand......

Now the cola is the one flavor I haven’t tried. Too strong?

Mind you, I'm not a coke drinker anyway, but if I have a soda I want an ice cold soda. With Tailwinds being inherently warm it just tasted like a coke that was opened and sat in the sun for a couple hours. YMMV. I seem to remember many folks saying they really like that flavor.

 

I’ve had one soda in the last 15yrs and it was on the WW50 ride, so it tasted amazing
I have a sample of the cola, I’ll find out sooner or later!

 

I like where this thread is headed. A veritable cornucopia of Tailwind mixing bliss. And alcohol.

The cola tastes like a flat Coke. But for some reason, I liked it. Not sure I need that much caffeine though.

The Green Tea is, well, probably my last choice. It's not horrible, but it's not great. One thing I learned the hard way. Having ONLY tailwind and no actual fresh water SUCKS!!! I need to rinse that sweet pasty Sh!t outta my mouth!

 

Actually, that's another benefit of Tailwind. I don't have that need/craving for a massive sugar (HFCS) dump at the end of a ride that I got pre TW. I too had not had a soda in 10+ years, but got a cold Sprite from the fountain at Sharkey's after a particularly hot ride and in context it was one of the greatest tastes that had ever passed my lips.

 

They don't call it Sudden Discomfort fer nuthin. Mayhap you should skip it.

 

Of course y’all recall I approved vodka as a recreational recovery additive many month ago. Tito’s Handmade or better.

 

No, not too strong at all. More root beer than cola. It's good, not great for the reasons mentioned above. I bet it would be awesome mixed with a soda steam!

When we were in the desert, @herzalot had a mild case of the bonks. He passed on the green tea and held out for @mtnbikej 's berry flavor. Something about cramps and death being preferable to green tea...

There may be a small sample of hyperbole in the above sentence... Just a little.

I've had the same bag of the unflavored for maybe two or three years. Is it pretty helpful when one starts bonking? I normally carry a baggy of it in my pack and have given it to my buddy Juan on several rides when he starts complaining and whining.
I always just assumed his feeling better after the tailwind was just a psychosomatic effect.

All of my 10,000+ foot rides were with Tailwind. Lately I’ve backed off on using it for anything under 3 or 4 hours, depending on weather and effort..,

 

Same here. Jennifer won a bunch of Skratch so I've been using that for anything less than 3-4 hours. Still using Tailwind for the longer rides.

 

It seems to work to keep me out of the bonk zone. Like Steve and Ed I'm using it for longer efforts only. I use it like a preemptive drip from the start of the ride. I have used it for recovery afterward. I used TW on my last few climbing outings, and can say for sure it worked as advertised on those 15-23 hour pushes where caffeine would have been my mainstay previously.

 

Good.....bring on a new flavor that doesn't taste like dirty dish soap water.
