Go away, leave us alone, etc.

I can sympathize more than most with residents feeling overrun. That’s the price of living in an exotic enclave next to a metro area.

Putting up a such a sign on your property still makes you an arrogant as$hole, though. Sure, lots of other EAs in cars driving into an overpacked canyon and behaving badly.

SoCal in full color. Garish to my eye. Not sad to not be there.

Yeah, I was surprised by signs I saw. Silverado Canyon has always been pretty welcoming, but this isn’t like them.

wouldn’t surprise me if it weren’t a couple of disgruntled residents.

It is the park service game of wack-a-mole. Tell 3.5 million people they can't go to work, can't go to school, can't go to church, can't go to health clubs, can't go to the mall, can't go to the beach, can't go to the playground... but they CAN go hiking... and what do they think is going to happen?

I feel for the Silverado Canyon residents, but with Trabuco Canyon closed, they are one of just three access points on the west side of the mountains. Can you imagine if Trabuco Canyon was open, what a clusterfuck it would be right now on Holy Jim?

Last Saturday Courtney and I parked at the tree farm. We rode towards Blackstar and began seeing all the cars parked. Cars as far as the eye could see. I said forget it. We turned around, reloaded our bikes into the truck and drove up to Silverado only to find more congestion but not nearly as bad. We found a place to park where we've parked in the past and rode up. I wasn't into the ride that day decided to turn around. Courtney made sure to point out the it was Me that wanted to turn around not her... Does anybody know the current status of Blackstar and/ or Silverado Maple Springs? Asking for a friend who needs to know by 11:30 am today.:whistling:

I haven't ridden my bike since February. I guess I have an excuse, getting ready for our move, but every time I have thought about going I get an image in my mind of Blackstar with solid cars to the tree farm... and I stay home.

Not just an *******, but a stupid *******. It's a public street, and they certainly aren't complaining about the two public fire stations we have to maintain in the canyon to keep them safe!

There is no parking anywhere on Blackstar Canyon Rd. Trail is open, but you gotta find somewhere else to park. The signs look official as well as a light sign board.

this was yesterday at 1:45 on Silverado/Blackstar:

Silverado has the “community” sign out in front of the community center that says Silverado is open to residents only and that the gate is closed. This is not an official sign from the county. I only went into the market and turned around.

Think the parking lot at the end of the Silverado road by the gate would be full today? Usually midweek is fine, but...

Thanks for the info MtnbikeJ. On less busy days I normally park at the Silverado community center. Floop? All the bad things I've said about you... I take them all back! You've never looked so good :p No.. Really.

Any photos of the signs? Do they say what @mike indicated, "go away" etc?

Was at Whiting yesterday at 3:30. Very few people, it was pretty nice.

What works for me is to go early. I usually ride the ANF about dawn/6:30am anyway, and the trails, access, and parking lots have been normal.
Things ramp up quickly about 8am, when the "early" quarantiners start showing up.
About 10am, here come the side-by-side baby strolling Moms.
    After that, it's a zoo!

Yeah me too but early didn’t happen today. Wife is home off work too she slept in after our long hike yesterday and we’re just trying to decide the best thing to try to do. I’m thinking even the lot on the 74 across from candy store might be packed. Just gonna stay local. Think I’m not gonna bother with the Silverado clusterfuck until the crisis is “over” (and it’s hot again (sad face))

    This... ^^^

As a ride, it sucked... But as an opportunity to get out of the house and get some exercise away from other people, my pavement hill repeats hit the spot. :inlove: I wish I had time for more...

One of the lady walkers got a kick out of the fact that I passed her several times up and down... A shared smile from 20 feet away is still human contact...

I only saw two signs up last Sunday telling people to slow down and the speed limit is 25 mph. Weird.

Yeah.. I saw some shameful behavior as I was leaving Silverado.. some old grandma was driving 20 mph.. I was behind her but giving her space.. no biggie.. nice view drive.. some dude in white Jeep..came up on me honking...I let him pass.. pulling over... He the sped up in the old grandma... And continued to honk at her... She pulled over too when she could...
Then about a minute later the white Jeep stopped in the middle of the road.. blocking traffic..talking to some lady on the side of the road...
    Yeah u r a local... But what a jerk..

The Silverado residents are passing it on to their offspring. The two youths who rolled up behind me on their motos coming down Motorway insisted that it was ok because they live there.

I’d love to pull the fire stations out and leave them to fend for themselves, but I live in the next neighborhood downwind.

still no excuse to park in no parking areas. If there’s nowhere to park, go home poppy people.

That sounds exactly like the jackass we met up there last year when Maple Springs was closed... Same argument. He was especially clueless- claiming he knew "Joe" from the canyon and that made it ok, no matter what the rangers say.

I hate to say it, but Motorway is going to become the next STT/Luge... overcrowded with motos, e-bikes and complete tools. Time to start thinking of it as a two-way trail.

I hope I'm wrong but this $hit is about to duplicate itself on a national scale...

Once they start opening things back up gradually people will travel to other states just to find some "normalcy" and bring the virus with them.
Florida is trying to force people who visited New York to self quarantine, and this is only the tip of the iceberg.

April would be an interesting month.

My first thought, as well... But after everything passes, I bet the powers that be won’t be in a great hurry to replace any that disappear.
