Would someone weigh in with recommended trails to hit while out there? I'm not looking to spend entire day out there on death march riding every open trail. Thanks

Park at the Quail Hill Loop trailhead and be sure to sample the DH on Cattle Crest, Rabbit Run, Fox Run, and Ridge Route. Use Shady Oaks to climb out of the Canyon. That’ll give you 20 miles and 3k or so. The numbers don’t seem to add up, but they do somehow.

I'll disagree with DDD, and say, park at the cattle camp at bommer canyon, go up Ridge Route, then hit any or all three of Cattle Crest (fun loose rocks), Rabbit Run (easy flowy fun and some big rock rollers at the bottom), and Fox Run (very steep with some techy chunk parts), before taking Ridge Route back to your car. Climbing out Shady Oaks every time is not that much fun (although the single track portion is lots of fun!), imo, so I usually do an out and back climbing up Rabbit Run before turning around and heading back down.

Good intel on the Rabbit Run climb back up! I haven't been there since its been sanitized, so I will definitely climb Rabbit Run after dropping into Cattle Crest in order to get back up to Serrano Ridge for a Fox Run. If you park at the Cattle Camp at Bommer and you are not out of there by 2pm, you may get locked in (as of 2013). If you park at the Quail Hill loop trailhead, there is no way to get locked in. Granted, there used to be a SAG station at the cattle camp at bommer canyon several years ago for this event...Not sure anymore.

Still get locked in if you're there past 2. But trails close at 2 anyway so.

There are other trails to sample that are open throughout the day/every day, like Bommer Meadow, Nature Loop, Bommer Pass, Turtle Ridge, West Fork to LCWP trails, Serrano Ridge to Camarillo to Stagecoach, etc., so juuuust in case, I try to avoid time constraints where possible.

Funny we often make the climb up Cattle for 1 of the ups...tough climb but gets you back... Never thought of rabbit would need to hoist bike up the rocks and be prepped for downhill traffic.

Cattle would work too. Other than the rocks at bottom Rabbit is a nice climb with the switchbacks. Traffic is so light out there it’s not too big a deal to climb the single track.

The best part of hosting a group ride that no one attends is that I’ll be right on time when I show up well after 11am as expected.

Yea, no. 92607EEB-3382-4039-BCDA-727BF295DCF3.jpeg I would have bonked before even getting there from the west. The Irvine PD was nice but made me turn around at hogback, so ran outta time for ridge route. Audible to Camarillo. I’m spent. Good day. Got a yello bell from Nix. Busted out the iPod and daydreamed for a while. Yay! I rode today! Bikes are fun indeed Herzie!
