I already PMed @Mikie and asked him to delete all 12000+ posts of mine. He can't deny that I asked that... I'm waiting for his answer.

You do know you can delete text from your post with the edit function, right?
So for 12k posts you better get busy, its gonna take an hour or two...

Did I request deletion in my sleepy daze that I post in? Might be,might be.

To think about it, this really should not be a joke? If it was who I think it might have been the posts were a bit odd, and maybe a bit desperate? It’s my experience that people say things when they are on the edge and maybe this is a bit insensitive?

I don't think anybody was rude or insensitive. However, as an admin of another website, let me guarantee you that sometimes you will never know.

I once had a guy who posted all kinds of aggressive stuff, and who liked to mix it up with the other members. Then suddenly he got a job as a college professor and started to freak out that someone was going to figure out who he was on my website. So I closed his account and anonymized all his content, leaving it under a generic user name. He kept sending me more and more aggressive emails, and eventually threatened to sue me. I just pointed him towards this statement (@Mikie and I use the same software):

FWIW, Europe recently upgraded their online privacy laws. The only change for forum sites was that we had to agree to anonymize a user's content if and when requested - meaning we had to change the user name to something generic. We do NOT have to delete content.

P.S. In the example I posted above, after this guy had chilled out for a few months, he came back, created a new account, and is still a member on my site He just keeps his online behavior a little more in check now.

 

I wish online followed in person behavior more.

 

I find it cathartic to be a member here. When you are a site admin, you find yourself playing mother hen a lot of times - and you can never really come out and say "grow the $#^@@ up!" though some people deserve to hear it

That said, I have had members who have fallen on hard times, and it can be really sad. One of my members lost his wife... and I drove four hours with a couple of friends to take him to lunch.

 

It's interesting how personalities online and IRL match up the more you get to know people. There are differences for sure, but a lot of overlap when you actually get to meet them. The good and the bad!!!

 

I dunno.....I’m much nicer online.

 

A hell of a lot of online bravado never shows up to the trailhead. If it does, it's usually accompanied by a pocketful of excuses.

 

A stout, technical, climb is like a HEPA filter for bullshit.

 

The real world and the e-world are two completely different things.

In my mind, it’s hard to take the e-world seriously. The real deal is you and me, face to face. Therefore, I am a screwball online. This whole internet electronic frontier thing could go away tomorrow and we would carry on just fine, as we were before it was here.
