My GX 11 spd derailleur is still going fine after 3 years of use.

I don't buy pricey derailleurs anymore.

Yeah, and the reason the SRAM does not have an adjustable clutch is because of Shimano.

The single speed is a much better choice for everything we rode in Saint George. :p And no need to worry about your clutch...

    Get that Ibis built... :p

Sram type 3 clutch is not serviceable. If your still trying to get the spring back together, here's a video to help out. Not an xo1, but same thing.

I don’t put GX in the same category of XT.
    I thought it went:
    XX1 XO1 GX
    XTR. XT SLX

    Okay!
After watching @Grego ’s vid, I went back out in the garage in my pajama’s and with much more effort, force, and squinting my eyes, I was able to get the spring cover off.

    :eek:Good Gawd!
The guy in the video is right. There is absolutely no environmental protection by way of the spring cover. The grease inside was dried and filthy. Several Q-Tips with rubbing alcohol later, greased, reassembled, rotated 360 degrees to load the spring, the action is back! Verified via the vid, the clutch is not serviceable, I have no idea if the clutch will do its job, or if the gunk free tension spring was what it needed. I did remove one more chain link as well. Stay tuned.

    Thanks @Grego!

Good to hear you got it back together again @Mikie . Sadly I doubt it fixed the chain dropping issue. I guess Sram just expects you to buy another derailleur when the clutch wears. I checked Vince's type 3 clutch recently and it feels like there is nothing there. He's not dropping chains though, he's running a chain guide.

I betcha' could easily go a SRAMano set up w/ a 12 speed Gripshifter, XT rear derailer, and existing XO1 cassette. Try it and see, worst case you trade the der for a XO1 down the line, but I think it should work fine. Eleven speed and up is pretty compatible as the throws are so similar at this point.

I think the pull ratio is different on the RD’s. I have read you need a SRAM shifter to operate a SRAM RD.

Huh. That’s the first article I have read making the claim you can swap out shifter or rear derailleur.

One thing about SHIMANO is they do a lot of group component thingys like the Shimano chain on the new system apparently has longer inside plates? I don’t know yet exactly what that means yet but it is supposed to improve shifting and aid in shifting under power.

None the less it would be great to continue to have less proprietary components so we can mix and match to our hearts content.

I find Shimano to build more reliable products for less money if you stick in the XT range, although I have to admit, this SRAM XO1 has lasted me over two years. Based on the stuff I have ridden I usually destroyed a derailleur a year. But that was from impact with hurtful things...:gotnothing:

So what exactly does this mean for you?

Buy an new XO1 RD and be good to go or spend a bunch in money on an all new drivetrain by a different maker?

Allegedly - I will be using a new XT derailleur sometime this decade - on a mythical new bike that will be sporting the new XT 12 spd stuff.
That's if I don't quit entirely (based on my recent post in another thread).

Well it gives options. I think that an XO1 is way too expensive and if a replacement is needed, I would get a new XT RD and try it with Gripshift. But the goal would be to migrate over time back to all Shimano with a bonus if I can stick with Gripshift, and and and rule the world! Ha ha haaaahhhh!
