2020 - What's IN/OUT

I was really distressed to hear that single speeds were not on the list of What's In for 2020. Closest we can get to that is "underbikes and underbiking."

I was also disappointed to not get any clues as to what clothing choices I should be making or which "colorways" I should be curating in 2020. How will I know what's fashionable?











(I DO predict that someone will take this comment seriously and tell us how they are rebellious and wear whatever the hell they want and aren't dictated by trends.)

 

Did you hear? Coil shocks with short-travel single crown forks are what the cool kids are riding this year!

 

Always remember to live by what you are told . Not sure why I watched that?

 

Post that comment on MTBR, where any generalization has to be rebutted by throngs of individual members telling you what they personally do. lol

 

Down country is over.

It's the year of #uphillfreeride . Wait until you see rampage this year...

 

With the explosion of e-mtbs, you may be onto something here. But more likely, uphill flow trails. Why limit your fun to only 10-20% of your total riding time when you can do uphill flow trails? That will be especially awesome on two-way trails like Meadows in Aliso, Cactus Canyon in Santiago Oaks, Golden Eagle or San Juan. . Hikers will love it too!

Nah, they're replacing it with bouncy downhill (mega), bouncier downhill (high), and bounciest downhill (tallboy).

 

That's this one, the V4. Minimalist, but not afraid to roll down Half Dome.

 

If you ride a down country bike on a challenging descent, are you under biking?

Underbiking was on both the in and out list.

 

Underbiking requires skill and experience. Therefore, Underbikers are cool.

Look at @Grego, for example, at 2019's Skyline Trail mega-group ride. He was rolling it on a Beach Cruiser.

Truth. Actually, if we’re keeping score, I pedaled a stationary bike today. I think I almost got my HR to 100. Baby steps.

 

Cannell on a single speed XC race bike with 100 mm fork and 70 degree HTA. Or Motorway on a 26" titanium single speed...

 

That's awesome... And seems really quick.

 

So basically a bike that’s not really the best choice for that particular terrain, but you do it anyways just because you can.
I get it and appreciate that there are nusto’s out there that dig that sh!t! #hardcore

(PS - The HT of your vintage can be converted to a HT LT with 150mm rear, if you don't get your suspension dialed to your liking).

 

I'm way ahead of you. At least in the thinking about it category. I'll ride her the way she is for a good while before making any drastic changes. 160 upfront, 150 outback. Maybe even run it MULLET!
