Oh yeah, Dan has an account here, too!!!

I guess you can ride big miles, or post a lot online... but not both!

A buddy of mine is doing the SS 24 hour solo. The leader in that category has done 19 laps. My buddy was down one lap from him at 11pm last night. I think he's just doing one lap at a time now.

So... Does this have you wondering how many you could knock out?

I think I'd reach the wall (death) around 15,000 feet.

It does. I've done 12 hours in the saddle. I think I could go 24 in cruise mode. That might net me 19k on that particular course. Just guesstimating of course.

Dan kept me on my toes.

I failed in spectacular fashion at this last year, which was my first 24 attempt. This year I didn't put any pressure on myself, my goal was just to finish. Half way through the night I felt physically good, but mentally knew I was going to make a mistake with a drowsy brain and decided to take a break. I could have continued, but I felt I didn't really have anything tl prove. Though, as I was sitting in 2nd at the time, I did have some motivation to push.

I took a break, slept for a while and warmed up. Hit the trails at sunrise when it was 30° and absolutely enjoyed the last three laps I had time for.

Bucket list item. I don't have plans to do another, but I'm glad I got it done, feel good about it, and won a couple free things too.

I'm trying to shift my bike goals to experiences as opposed to results. Chasing happiness, not validation.

Ouch! Even I'm quite a few monster burritos away from that.

I've also been getting the itch to try these again... long slow single speed days. :inlove:

I am planning on doing the 12 hours of Vail Lake on 25 Jan 2020. Haven't decided whether it will be SS or geared. 24 hours seems too much for me.
